Title: In Vivo Scientist

Pay Rate: 100-125K depending on years of industry experience

Location: South San Francisco

Type: Direct Hire with our client

Position: In vivo scientist

Minimum qualifications for successful candidates:
  • Ph.D or equivalent in developmental biology, immunology, or related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years of postdoctoral experience in a laboratory setting
  • PhD/DVM preferred
  • Hands-on experience: handling immunocompromised animal/murine models, injections (i.e. IP, IV, IA, SC), small animal surgery, blood and tissue harvesting and processing for downstream analysis and experimental applications
  • Demonstrates ability to run in vivo studies in an independent manner and to assist in the design and execution of non-routine in vivo experiments.
  • Experience in isolation and processing of hematopoietic tissues from animal models, particularly preparation of bone marrow cells involving dissection, generation of single-cell suspensions, red blood cell lysis, viable-cell quantification
  • Processing of primary human bone marrow/peripheral blood/cord blood samples, isolation of PBMCs (eg. Ficoll, MACS)
  • High level of proficiency operating multi-color flow cytometry analysis (FACS) of mouse/human-derived peripheral blood and bone marrow samples (BD platform preferred; BioRad platform a plus); operating FACS sorters a plus (BD Diva-based sorters); highly proficient in DIVA and FlowJo software
  • Responsible for data analysis and interpretation, troubleshooting, and follow up experiment for in vivo projects
  • Good communication skills and experience to writing protocols, procedures, and technical reports
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task and work cross-functionally.

Desired / Preferred qualifications for successful candidates:
  • Manage CROs regarding experimental design, implementation and execution of in vivo studies
  • Experience in common molecular and cell biology techniques, histology, cell culture and cloning
  • Experience with in vitro culture of cell lines and primary donor-derived cells (mouse and/or human)
  • Background in orthopedic diseases
  • Various small animal surgery techniques, eg. peripheral blood sampling, retro-orbital/intra-femural transplantation
