PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

During a patient’s initial appointment, a physical therapist will ask about their medical history, evaluate their symptoms and develop a rehabilitation plan that aligns with the patient’s personal needs and goals. Throughout the treatment process, a physical therapist will work directly with the patient to teach them different functional tasks and exercises intended to strengthen or stretch muscles as well as alleviate pain.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Restores patient’s function, alleviates pain, and prevents disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed physical therapy

Provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results

Determines physical therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription

Helps patient accomplish treatment plan by administering manual exercises, giving massages, and using equipment as necessary

Evaluates and records patient’s progress, modifying treatment plans, and trying new treatments if required

Evaluates the use and fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices by observing, noting, and observing patient’s progress; and recommending adjustments and modifications

Documents patient care services by charting in-patient and department records

Instructs patients in proper in-home exercises and therapies

Educates patients and their families about the recovery process and the challenges they will face

Completing all paperwork including Daily notes, Progress Notes, Evaluations and insurance forms in a timely manor

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

DPT preferred

Licensed as a physical therapist in state of NY

Basic life support (BLS) certification

Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.

Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.

Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of

patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens.

Other: Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 45 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required. Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service, including injections. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift. Requires exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
