The Genesee Valley Club (GVC) seeks a Sports & Wellness Program Manager who will bring the department to the next level by expanding social and competitive programs for adults, juniors, and families to meet the ever-changing needs and demands of the GVC membership.

A successful candidate must ensure the achievement of the mission and objectives of the GVC. The position is responsible for the overall operation of the department, including tennis, squash, platform tennis, pool, fitness, junior programming, the pro shop, and staff. The Sports & Wellness Program Manager is a highly visible position requiring strong leadership and communication skills with both members and staff. Direct responsibilities also include full oversight of the pool and all aquatics programming and coordination of all fitness offerings, scheduling, and staffing.

The Sports & Wellness Program Manager is expected to lead through passionately promoting tennis, squash, paddle, fitness & aquatics, child watch and through extension via the staff team as well. The Sports & Wellness Program Manager reports to the General Manager/COO and works in coordination with the Sports & Wellness Committee. The Sports & Wellness Program Manager administers the policies, procedures, and programs of the GVC relating to all Club athletics, with the goal of assuring the consistently exceptional daily operation of Club-wide athletics operations; provide members and guests with an environment that meets the values of the Club.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Create a comprehensive program through organizing tournaments, clinics, round robins, instruction, social events, and other related activities to maximize members’ participation in and enjoyment of athletic facilities for all levels.

Oversee departmental programs and services to meet budget objectives and exceed member satisfaction.

Document and report program success to the GM/COO to be used for future program evaluation and planning.

Implement a teaching philosophy for racquet sports, fitness, and junior programing in line with the Club’s values and traditions.

Oversee and actively support staff in providing successful private and group lessons, training and coaching for adults and children.

Assist in organizing and supporting interclub & intraclub league team tennis and paddle practice and play.

Operate a high-quality merchandise and retail operation in the Club’s Pro Shop, representing the desires and expectations of the members.

Oversee department POS operations to generate accurate member billing and sales/activity reports.

Oversee operation of the Sports & Wellness Committee.

Manage, recruit and aid in the development of all athletic department staff including teaching professionals, pro shop staff, and seasonal interns including lifeguards and Child Watch professionals.

Market and promote sports & wellness programs and events via printed materials, website and social media, and e-newsletters.

Participate in the creation of the annual budget, monthly financial performance statements, and manage weekly payroll.

Coordinate with the Club’s maintenance staff to ensure a high level of excellence of all athletic facilities, pool, locker rooms, Child Watch rooms and courts.

Oversees compliance of GVC Rules and Regulations governing use of the facilities, equipment, dress code and sportsmanship including Guest Policies.

Candidate Qualifications/Experience/Selection Criteria

The ideal candidate should be an engaging and polished professional of the highest integrity with a proven record of progressive development and leadership responsibilities. A strong preference will be placed on those with specific experience as Sports & Wellness Program Manager in a private club setting.

Desired Experience:

Prior development of comprehensive and creative programming, and integration of innovative ideas and initiatives in the service of continual improvement in member experience and operational efficiency.

· Strategic planning and coordination with management, boards, committees, and other key contributors to develop, execute, and track progress against these plans.

· Development of and knowledge in capital improvements in the sports area.

· Proven leadership that brings out the best in others by setting clear goals and expectations, accountability for outcomes, and provision of consistent feedback and support through professional, respectful interaction.

· Attraction, hiring and development of a high-performing team of professionals while setting standards of performance appropriate to perpetuating the traditions and values of the GVC.

· Instruction and promotion of any or all of racquet, fitness, and junior programs.
