Job Overview The Systems Supervisor of Specialized Applications and Integrations achieves UC Santa Cruz campus goals by maintaining applications supporting campus teaching and learning, while performing administrative business functions. This supervisory role is essential in facilitating cross team communication, partnering with product managers, resolving natural contention amongst IT talent, developing and maintaining technology standards, and overseeing technology training and development with an emphasis on emerging technology needs, lean, and agile, and supporting necessary product prioritization. This position supervises and develops talent on behalf of but not limited to Identity and Access Management (IAM), campus FileMaker, Learning Management (Canvas, BLUE), campus web presence, data integrations, IT Request, desktop security and configuration management.In addition to the leadership role, this position is also an individual technical contributor who takes direction from product managers in support of the above technologies with emphasis on the Identity and Access Management (IAM) system.

Salary Information: Salary Range: $90,400 - $110,000/annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Job Duties

40% -Supervision and Management:Identifies training requirements and professional development opportunities for staff. Ensures all team members are aware of and adhere to applicable UC or ITS policies, procedures and other guidelines, including security and privacy.Conducts staff meetings and participates in unit staff meetings and division-wide programs.Recommends hiring of new employees, salary actions, terminations, and performance ratings.Coordinates activities of professional staff with functional departments involved in system requirements, techniques, and controls.

20% -Supervises ongoing programming applications activities in support of Identity and Access Management (IAM), campus FileMaker server, Learning Management (Canvas, BLUE), campus web presence, data integrations, IT request, desktop security and configuration management and others.

15% -Under the direction of product management, directly support applications within the teams portfolio with emphasis on the Identity and Access Management (IAM) system.

10% -Provides architectural and standards oversight to subordinate staff ensuring product needs are met while adhering to established architectural principles and standards.

5% -Helps analyze the needs of functional departments and helps to establish priorities for feasibility studies and systems design and implementation to develop new and / or modify information processing systems.

5% -In partnership with designated Product Manager(s), ensures resource needs are adequately prioritized to align with business priorities from the product perspective.

5% -Other duties as assigned.

ITS Security Statement Information Technology positions are responsible for the security of UC Institutional Information and IT Resources. The incumbent is required to follow all applicable information security policies, procedures, and standards to maintain minimum standards of information security for data, systems and applications. Supervisors are responsible for making sure their staff have appropriate security skills and qualifications, and complete all appropriate and required security training.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience with an emphasis in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, or in a related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of Unix/Linux Systems Administration.
  • Experience with Cloud Platforms Engineering (AWS preferred - CloudFormation, OpsWorks, CloudWatch).
  • Configurations as code, ie, Chef, git, shell scripting, etc.
  • Experience with Identity and Access management technologies both in house and SaaS: SSO, LDAP, Active Directory, Okta, Hitachi, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and mentor staff in regards to enterprise systems management.
  • Knowledge necessary to design, set up, operate and correct malfunctions involving technology systems.
  • Knowledge of computer security tools, best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software.
  • Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff, performance management and performance related issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Requires solid ability to communicate highly technical information in a clear and concise manner to both technical and nontechnical personnel.
