Primary Purpose:Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean, this position is responsible for the computing environment that supports the students, faculty, and staff of the School of Engineering and Computer Science (SOECS). This includes oversight of all computing resources and information technology to support academics and business operations. This position works closely with Pacific Technology to ensure that all components of the SOECS computing environment are operating properly within the university's environment and conforming to the university's policies and procedures. This position also serves as a point of expertise with respect to computing resources for SOECS faculty, staff, and students.The SOECS computing environment includes approximately 250 workstations in laboratories, classrooms and offices; application, licensing, and file servers; various high-performance research computers; and the systems and software running throughout these systems. The position includes evaluation, selection and purchasing of hardware, software, and services; installation, configuration, and maintenance of physical and virtual computing systems; monitoring and testing to ensure secure and reliable operations; and assisting with planning and budgeting.Responsible for installing, maintaining and upgrading computer laboratories in the School of Engineering. Establishes system by planning, budgeting, and executing selection, installation, configuration, and testing both physical and virtual computer systems in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements (SLAs). Responsible for auditing server and desktop security and implementing upgrades as necessary to meet University security policies and procedures

Essential Functions:1. Administers access privileges within the SOECS computing environment, including procedures and policies for requesting and granting access. Works with Pacific Technologies to integrate university level and school level access privileges.2. Ensures that all components of the SOECS computing environment are operational and secure. Maintains system performance by monitoring, analysis, tuning and troubleshooting of system hardware, software, and networks.3. Receives, configures, and installs new computers and computing equipment. Decommissions, secures, and surpluses retired computers and equipment.4. Manages software including licensing, installation, configuration, upgrading, budgeting and purchasing.5. Serves as first point of contact for all computing related problems encountered by SOECS faculty, staff, and students. Works with Pacific Technology to log issues and determine solutions. Ensures that solutions are implemented in a timely manner and provides regular status updates to affected individuals.6. Maintains an inventory of the current configuration and location of all computers, servers, printers, and other physical devices.7. Develops and maintains a refresh schedule for all SOECS computers. Makes recommendations for purchases to replace refreshed systems, based on understanding of the market, university policies and available budgets.8. Advises and assists SOECS faculty in the selection and use of software and hardware in the classroom and laboratory to deliver an exceptional educational experience for students. Advises and assists SOECS faculty in the selection and use of software and hardware to support academic research and administrative functions.9. Provides instruction or documentation to SOECS staff on the appropriate use of the computers, networks, and applications for handling business operations and administrative functions.10. Develops instructional documentation for SOECS students on working effectively and ethically within the SOECS computing environment.11. Provides support for network attached devices such as office telephones and printers. Configures and maintains printer access and accounting system.12. Remains current on technologies and tools as needed to be effective in the position and knowledgeable as a technical advisor to SOECS faculty, staff, and students.13. Trains and supervises student assistants.14. Collaborates with other SOECS technical staff to fulfill the academic mission of the SOECS.15. Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean and Dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science.

Minimum Qualifications:• One (1) year work experience in System Administration.

Preferred Qualifications:• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical certifications.• Proficiency in system administration in a Microsoft centric environment, including Windows, Active Directory, Outlook/Exchange, Sharepoint and Teams.• Familiarity with Linux and macOS sufficient for addressing common issues with applications and networking.• Functional understanding of wired and wireless networking.• Familiarity with Cisco wired and wireless technology.• Experience assembling, configuring, and repairing Windows computers.• Experience purchasing computers and working with hardware vendors.• Experience installing applications, purchasing software licenses, and managing license servers.• Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written, with a wide range of clients and technical peers.• Experience managing inventories and budgets.• Ability to prioritize and manage a combination of short-term and long-term tasks and projects.• Experience providing outstanding customer service.• Ability to follow oral and written instructions with minimal supervision.• Ability to work productively and professionally as a member of a diverse team.• Administrative experience with any of the following technologies: VMware, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Git/Github, Relational Databases, Docker.
