General Job Description

Dogwood Industries manufactures prefabricated steel and aluminum structures and is seeking an experience Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our growing team. The core mission of the CWI is to execute quality assurance plans for fabrication of steel structures. In the event of incomplete or defective work, the CWI will be responsible for issuing and resolving non-conformance reports. The CWI will also be in charge of implementing inspection and test plans for each project. They will maintain and distribute accurate drawings and red line corrections throughout fabrication process, maintain quality control records, documents and logs. The CWI will be responsible for performing and documenting weld procedure specifications and welder operator qualification tests.

A successful candidate will perform incoming material inspections and vendor inspections when required as well as first article, visual and dimensional checks at all stages of production. A successful candidate will have prior experience in quality control for steel fabrication and general construction. This role requires the ability to read and interpret detailed technical specifications and apply requirements to production work.

Skills and Qualifications Required

Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification

2+ years experience working as a CWI or similar position

Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and shop drawings

Strong organizational and communication skills

Familiarity with AWS D-1.1 weld inspections

Knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and Adobe Acrobat

Minimum of a High school diploma, general education degree or vocational degree

Experience in steel fabrication or general construction

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body, able to reach overhead, able to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, squatting; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance for extended periods of time. Be able to lift, pull and push material and equipment to complete assigned job tasks. Be able to lift 50 pounds of weight throughout assigned workday if required. The employee will be exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors. This position requires physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities in a primarily production environment. The work environment characteristics here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Applicant must provide complete work history with employer references for last three employers, or past five years, whichever is most relevant.

All employees are subject to pre-employment and random periodic drug testing.

Hourly rate DOE, starting at $30/hour, DOE. The company offers a medical/vision and dental plan and paid time off to eligible employees.
