Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develops and maintains our LIS applications (McKesson Lab, SafeTrace Tx (Blood Bank), Sunquest PoiwerPath, Data Innovations Instrument Manager, Telcor QML and RALS iSTAT)
  • Lead Lab Test Change committee and oversee and document the build of new lab tests, and modification or existing lab tests as needed. Perform unit and integrated testing with downstream systems like Epic and Vigilanz
  • Test and verify software provided in software releases
  • Works as a liaison between Laboratory Staff and ITS
  • Works with non-laboratory departments regarding laboratory processes to develop solutions for efficient work practices
  • Performs ongoing quality assurance audits of LIS calculations, expert rules, logic and outputs to ensure proper functioning and interpretation of results in downstream systems e.g. Epic and Vigilanz
  • Create and review SOPs in preparation for CAP and other regulatory inspections and audits
  • Actively participate in the education of laboratory staff on the functionality of our LIS applications
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all equipment and systems necessary to complete duties and responsibilities, providing end-user technical support of support applications
  • Adheres to HIPAA standards and supports ongoing professional development
  • Participates in on-call rotation and works off-hours as needed

Required Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in the lab environment
  • 3+ years of experience creating and reviewing SOPs in preparation for CAP and other regulatory inspections and audits
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotation and work off-hours as needed
  • Knowledge of network and firewalls
  • Experience maintaining Safe Trace blood Bank, PowerPath and Microbiology
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to HIPAA standards
  • Current licensure for the California State Department for Health as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or an ASCP from another state
  • Familiarity with the function and operation of laboratory information systems (LIS)
  • 5+ years of experience supporting LIS environment or other moderately complex clinical systems
  • Working knowledge of HL7
