Access Alaska Inc. is looking to Hire a Full Time Information and Referral Specialist an ideal candidate will have experience in the Human Service field, be knowledgeable of community resources, and have great customer service skills. This position will assist the elderly and people with disabilities to live independently within the community of their choice and to achieve physical, emotional, and economic independence by providing information and referral related to appropriate services in the community.

Essential Functions

Provide information, and referrals to connect consumers and members of the community to local services and resources which are applicable to their identified needs. Participate in meetings and other community-based events which impact the agency’s Independent Living Program. Information and Referral specialist conducts initial intake questionnaire, acts as an ‘entry point’ to Access Alaska services and provides information on various community resources and services to the public. Collaborates with other Independent Living Advocates to prepare outreach and public information material and engages in participation during related events; Ensures timely reporting and data entry has taken place in applicable data management systems.

Position Requirements

BA in Human and Social Service or equivalent work experience; Experience working with people with disabilities preferred. Knowledge of Independent Living philosophy and service delivery system, knowledge of community resources, disability benefits, etc. and use of the CIL Suite database, is useful.

Hourly Rate: $17.24 to $21.21

Full Time Non-Exempt

Essential Functions

Information and Referral Activities

Provides information and referral on appropriate services, assists with applications for services and follow-up information. Works closely with and at the direction of the Independent Living Manager in reference to the following.

Providing accurate and well-documented information and referral services.

Coordinating and/or writing service requests.

Ensuring timely reporting and data entry has taken place.

Responsible for preparing and/or providing information for agency reports.

Provides accurate information and assistance with Social Security another benefit programs.

Community Development

Prepare and deliver presentations on disability issues to consumer, provider, and community groups; prepares and arranges public awareness events to include media coverage, location, selection, logistics, and marketing.

Outreach

Provides information about Access’ services to consumers, community groups, and state and federal agencies.

Helps prepare outreach and public information material.

Participates in meetings and other special community-based activities that impact the agencies programs.

Work Hours-Days

Monday through Friday 8:00 to 5:00

Required Education and Training

BA in Human Services, Social Services, or related studies. Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

Required Experience

2 years working in social services directly with consumers and persons who experience disabilities.

Preferred Experience

4 years.

Special Skills

Knowledge of Independent Living service delivery system, other HSS programs, area resources, disability benefits, short and long-term care options, ability to work with a diverse population.

Ability to lift 25Lbs, Sitting at a Computer for long periods of time.

Excellent Communication both written & verbal, Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, be a Self-Starter able to work independently, Able to collaborate with team members, Must comply with State, Federal regulations, Must comply with all Policies and Procedures related to HIPAA & Confidentiality. Good Judgement, Maintain Boundaries.

Working Authorization

Access Alaska Inc. require completion of a State and Federal of Alaska fingerprint background check prior to starting work.
