We have an Agile Project/Portfolio Manager position available for our client in the Rosemont (Chicago), IL area! Job Description Overview As a member of the Agile Portfolio Management (APM) team, you have two major areas of responsibility described below.
- Agile Portfolio Management - managing the Plan of Intent (POI) and delivery lifecycle for one or more product verticals. The POI is the high-level scope of work that the teams commit to accomplishing in a given period (i.e. quarterly or some other frequency defined by the APM team).
- Project Management - Managing the execution of one or more cross-team projects to ensure the scope and success measures are met within the target timeline and budget
- POI Planning
- Collects data from teams and ensures data integrity between systems used to manage the POI
- Helps the teams to understand the POI planning process, tools used, deadlines etc. and acts as their advocate to make the POI planning process as seamless as possible
- Addresses planning concerns by escalating issues from assigned teams to the APM team
- Proactively initiates and orchestrates the activities to collect data from teams to ensure data integrity between systems used to manage the POI.
- Understands the capacity allocated to each team and can justify that allocation based on the goals of the company or the success measures of the initiative. In other words, you can't fall back on "this is what they told me". Instead, you are responsible for ensuring the content of the POI.
- Ensures the teams understand the POI planning schedule, process, tools used etc. and acts as their advocate and make the POI planning process as seamless as possible
- Identifies planning concerns, then proposes and implements effective solutions for the APM team
- POI Execution
- Monitors execution of POI to ensure progress against the plan
- Identifies risks/issues with achieving the plan and recommends the appropriate level corrective actions to the team
- Executes POI change process for assigned teams
- Vertical/Channel Management
- Understands the needs of the channel/vertical and what is required to make that channel/vertical successful
- Enforces the delivery lifecycle criteria for initiatives within the vertical or channel
- Breadth (scope & complexity) of channel/vertical needs
- Adheres to APM standards for channel/vertical management - TBD
- Coaches the n-in-a-box through the delivery lifecycle criteria for initiatives within the vertical or channel
- OKR Management

- Autonomously tracks progress and works with teams to influence success

- At least 5 years of successful APM level 1 (or similar prior company) experience.
- Successfully manages a variety of projects (product launches, infrastructure, TS-centric, SE-centric, etc.)
- Manages one or more key foundational initiatives aimed at improving scale, reducing costs or eliminating risk to CLIENT
- Manages one or more initiatives that have the following characteristics:
- Scope that is expected to span more than a quarter
- High revenue potential for the organization
- High risk (multiple high probability/high impact risks identified)
- Requires little or no supervision/guidance for assigned projects, while driving them to successful completion
- Shows awareness for how their project can affect other ongoing projects/initiatives in the organization
- Takes complete ownership for project issues and risks and drives them through to resolution
- Proactively seeks to improve APM processes and drives them through to completion, while maintaining assigned project work
- Trains and mentors incoming APM 1 or 2 team members
- Works autonomously, requiring little supervision/coaching
- Takes on additional work of their own volition
- Actively seeks opportunities for APM team improvements and implements them
- Is comfortable with ambiguity when creating a plan or an approach
- Is able to exert influence despite not having any direct reports
- Provides crisp, relevant communication to the Management Leadership Team (MLT) level - Director and above
- Ability to present effectively in department or company meetings
