Seasonal Grain Elevator/Skilled Laborer

Overview of position:

The Skilled Labor ensures that the Scoular equipment and physical assets are always in safe condition and good working order. They may participate in minor construction and maintenance projects. The position may provide guidance and direction to co-workers on daily operations. The Skilled Laborer also has a responsibility to conduct their activities in a tactful manner, while following all facility safety programs and policies.

1. Conduct equipment and building repairs and/or maintenance.

2. Maintain a preventative maintenance program on machinery, equipment, and company vehicles.

3. Responsible for the loading and unloading of incoming/outgoing grain from/to trucks.

4. The position may also assist with the weighing of grain trucks and grading of the grain.

5. Maintain housekeeping activities at the facilities. This will include, but is not limited to cleaning in all areas of the structures as well as all outside areas.

6. Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education, licensures, certifications, prior work experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, travel, supervision (etc.):

Minimum

5+ years of experience in the operation of grain conveying equipment, tractors, trucks and other portable grain handling equipment

5+ years of experience at servicing equipment and other equipment maintenance

1+ year of experience giving work direction

Pass pre-employment physical and drug and alcohol testing.

This is a full time job that may require occasional overtime.

Conditions can include: hot summer temperatures (90 - 120 degrees), cold winter temperatures (below freezing - subzero) and windy conditions (in excess of 40 MPH)

Work for long periods of time without smoking tobacco

Must be able to work in an environment with high levels of grain dust.

Must be able to bend and reach in normal range of movement.

Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds several times per day.

Must be able to remain standing on hard surfaces for long periods of time.

Must be able to climb ladders of various heights.

Must be able to work in confined / tight spaces.

Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor at times in excess of two hours.

Must be able to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. hardhat, safety glasses, respirators, etc.)

Must be able to remain free from illegal drugs.

Must be willing to be subjected to random drug testing at any time.

Equipment and/or technology used:

Minimum

This position must have:

Ability to operate mechanical equipment such as a belt lift or other equipment commonly used at a grain elevator.

Preferred

Additional skills to safely operate a broad variety of mechanical equipment such as a front end loader, drill or power equipment.

3+ years of experience with welding, cutting and any other hot work
