Job Description

Role Overview:

The Special Populations Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and oversight of services for all special populations, including students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), students with 504 plans and students who are designated as English Language Learners (ELLs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the provision of all services for students with IEPs, students designated as ELLs and students with 504s.

  • Create service and class schedules ensuring that the school is in compliance with all mandates while maximizing learning time.

  • Support with the development and implementation of the school wide plan for Response to Intervention (RTI) and train teachers as necessary.

  • Coordinate and attend all of the following:

    • Initial evaluations, IEP annual reviews, triennials, MDRs, etc.

    • Related services

    • Initiating Manifestation Determination Reviews (MDRs)

  • Oversee and/ or tracking the following data:

    • Service provision for billing

    • IEP goals

    • Student achievement

      • Diagnostic Data

      • Progress monitoring data

      • Interim Assessment/Benchmark Data

    • MDRs and suspensions

    • Compliance timelines

  • Coordinating and overseeing progress monitoring and reporting for all students with IEPs and students designated as ELLs

  • Teach special education classes, depending on the schools caseload of students

  • Coordinate the creation and implementation of 504 plans with families and staff

  • Coordinate and oversee all required family communication and create best practices around family engagement for the families of the school’s special populations

  • Oversee/Coordinate the IEP writing for annual reviews (special education teachers write, Special Pops Coordinator reviews)

  • Provide advice on class placements/schedules based on services

  • Manage special education teachers depending on the caseload of the students

  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Special Populations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree Preferred

  • Holds a current teaching license in Special Education

  • Ability to self-direct and prioritize among competing goals, initiate process improvements, exhibit flexibility, and drive results

  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills with keen attention to detail

  • Excellent public speaking, presentation, and networking skills
