Summary

The Retail Planning Manager is responsible for developing effective merchandise strategies for the retail division. They are responsible for creating sound financial plans that reduce company spending, and increase overall profit. They provide forecasts, use past performance to make projections, make recommendations for promotional markdowns, and manage inventory to maximize profitability. Additionally, they research market trends to increase and create more attractive offerings.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Drive financial results that maximize sales, inventory and bottom line profitability.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the planning department, including two planners.
  • Manage the financial success of several departments by meeting sales, gross margin, and inventory turn goals.
  • Manage the Open-To-Buy process effectively.
  • Generate and maintain weekly/monthly reports to analyze performance, inventory levels and distribution methods at the store level.
  • Analyze historical data and current trends to identify risks and opportunities by department and class. Collaborate with merchandising to develop and communicate a comprehensive strategy that aligns future financial and product opportunities by the department.
  • Recap and communicate location and size selling performance.
  • Develop knowledge of geographic and store attribute performance and trends through data analysis and field communication.
  • Review assortment plans to the class level using store grades and performance groupings.
  • Plan and forecast key items including seasonality and size.
  • Work with cross functional team to ensure timely and accurate execution of new store openings.
  • Allocate receipts to new and existing stores based on inventory plans at the department and classification level.
  • Responsible for managing system parameters to determine the appropriate allocation method for maximizing sales and inventory turnover.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, financial analysis, marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of eight years’ experience in retail planning capacity preferably as a merchandise planner and allocator, merchant, or buyer. May consider equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of four years’ experience managing team.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products, primarily Excel required.
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to multi-task, and prioritize workload with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to create, read, analyze, and interpret general business reports, primarily Excel based.
  • Ability to create ad-hoc reports and business correspondence
  • Must be able to effectively communicate,present information, and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
