USA TODAY is seeking a nimble, competitive reporter to cover the music industry across its entertainment vertical. We're looking for a team member who can react to developing or trending news and execute features with nuanced analysis.This is a deadline-driven, fast-paced job. It requires strong writing, excellent news judgment and fact-checking skills. Successful candidates have an interest in a variety of music, understanding of the industry and are comfortable writing about myriad topics such awards shows, artist interviews, album reviews and historical analysis. They are familiar with best practices of SEO, digital publishing and metrics.Responsibilities include:

• Spotting and writing high-interest items ahead of the competition.
• Pitching a broad range of stories on a regular basis.
• Optimizing your own content, paying special attention to headlines, SEO and fields visible to social audience.
• Using analytics to make informed decisions.
• Willingness to work occasional weekends.

• Bachelor's degree in journalism or any other subject in a liberal arts field from an accredited institution.

• Minimum 3-5 years of journalism experience.

• Experience covering music news in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated strong competitive instincts and intellectual curiosity.
