The Office of Public Safety is a department of professionally trained staff who work closely with the Residence Life staff, as well as with students, faculty, and staff to make up the campus community. Efforts of the Office of Public Safety are supplemented by state-of-the-art technology, a well-lit campus and parking facilities, along with a variety of personal and property protection programs. Public Safety Officers maintain an around the clock presence on campus: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The mission of the Office of Public Safety is to maintain a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors, and enable students to enjoy their years at Ringling College.

Successful candidates will enjoy working, protecting and providing a safe and secure environment for all students, faculty, staff and visitors. The Main Campus is a world class facility approximately 60 acres, 100 buildings, and 1,600 students. The Public Safety Officer observes and reports safety hazards, violations of campus policies and rule infractions, as well as responds to all situations on campus requesting the assistance of police, fire and emergency medical personnel when necessary. Public Safety Officers are responsible to record activities on incident reports and maintain Activity Reports each shift.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent

Computer skills including entering data and sending/receiving e-mail and the ability to accurately type reports

Possession of or an ability to obtain a valid Florida's Driver's license

Possess or be able to obtain certification in basic First Aid and CPR within 12 months

Possess or be able to obtain a Class D security officer license within 12 months

(The College provides educational assistance for FA, CPR and Class D license.)

Ability to effectively communicate verbally

Ability to work a flexible schedule with irregular hours

Requires a Criminal and Motor Vehicle Background Check

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Able to sit, walk or stand for extended periods of time., run when necessary; lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs. with no assistance; and ability to work in adverse weather conditions. Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to communicate clearly and with understanding via landline telephone, cell phone, two-way radio and in person. Have clear vision in a variety of light settings. Manual dexterity to check locks, doors, windows, etc. Ability to think clearly and quickly under potentially stressful circumstances, and maintain composure.

Preferred Qualifications

General Security experience

Experience with incident and other types of reporting

Special Instructions: Ability to work a flexible schedule as business necessitates.
