    Job Overview The Windows Systems Integrator is responsible for managing the Windows platform computers supporting the instructional computing labs and other campus-wide instructional services. Services include computer labs, Library public computing, classrooms, Faculty Instructional Technology Center, printing, course materials, instructional applications, server support, etc. As architect for the Windows technology area, this position is responsible for conceptualizing, planning, designing and implementing integrated, scalable, maintainable, and easy-to-use systems. This position directly supports campus clients with a particular focus on helping faculty and students achieve their teaching and learning goals through technology.

    Salary Information: Starting Salary Range: $75,000 - $93,858/annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

    Job Duties

    65% - Maintain Windows Systems and Applications
    • Plan, implement, maintain, monitor, and evolve large-scale deployment of Windows workstation and server systems supporting central instructional services including labs, Library public computing, classrooms, Faculty Instructional Technology Center, etc. Examples of supported technologies include: Active Directory servers, file servers, FileMaker Pro server, Terminal servers, SCCM server, MS SQL server, license management server, etc.
    • Manage and evolve automated Windows workstation image maintenance/configuration management systems to enable scalable, stable, and efficient management of hundreds of systems with minimal staff.
    • Follow engineering and coding best practice to ensure long-term maintainability and high availability. Write scripts/programs to automate functions and to provide “glue” components.
    • Evolve systems over time to meet changing conditions and client needs.
    • Use these systems to package, configure, and deploy software required for classes.
    • Optimize and secure the Windows system configuration on workstations/servers and diagnose problems caused by malfunctioning hardware and software, make repairs, upgrade existing hardware, and install software upgrades.
    • Leverage systems, infrastructure, and tools within ITS to increase efficiency and reduce redundancy.
    • Participate with ITS colleagues in designing and building standard systems, architectures, and processes that can be used widely across ITS products and services.
    • In coordination with related efforts on other platforms, establish a system for automated, pre-deployment unit and functional testing of Windows images.
    • Participate in hardware and software purchases and maintenance agreements. Advise management on purchasing options and recommendations.
    • Write and maintain scripts to automate systems administration and other tasks.

    20% - Instructor Support
    • Work with faculty to understand learning objectives and pedagogy goals. Research and recommend applications or other technologies that will help them most effectively accomplish these objectives/goals.
    • Install applications/configurations for academic courses in a timely manner, in some cases on tight deadlines.
    • Assist faculty, lab instructors, and students in the use of Windows systems and software, including systems-related issues in the installation and configuration of software and consulting with instructors to evaluate and select new hardware and software for labs.
    • Work with faculty and other scholars to analyze their complex computing problems, develop solutions, and convey the solutions to them. These may be complex applications involving 3-D rendering, scientific applications, digital video editing software, statistical packages, databases, etc.

    15% - Security, Policy, Documentation, and Collaboration
    • Interpret and follow ITS and University policies and procedures, copyright and licensing laws, and adhere to Federal regulations, policies, guidelines, and procedures including ADA requirements. Maintain integrity of system resources through sound security, backup, and disaster recovery/business continuity policy development and implementation. Make regularly scheduled technical analyses of systems and investigate any irregularities.
    • Participate with local team to create and refine technical and operational policies, procedures, and service changes.
    • Document architecture, environment, procedures, and processes. Ensure that documentation is up to date and usable by other staff.
    • Collaborate with other staff to facilitate backing up of other team members and to ensure that you can be effectively backed up by them.

    ITS Security Statement Information Technology positions are responsible for the security of UC Institutional Information and IT Resources. The incumbent is required to follow all applicable information security policies, procedures, and standards to maintain minimum standards of information security for data, systems and applications. Supervisors are responsible for making sure their staff have appropriate security skills and qualifications, and complete all appropriate and required security training.

    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
    • Advanced knowledge of Windows systems administration in an enterprise context, including Active Directory, SCCM, command line use, scripting, and advanced configuration and integration.
    • Significant understanding of enterprise architecture concepts and best practices.
    • Programming/scripting skills in several languages such as PowerShell, Python, Perl, Java, C, C, etc.
    • Demonstrated skill in solving complex problems and troubleshooting computer hardware, software, and networks.
    • Knowledge of network protocols and how they are used on a large network.
    • Experience with server configuration and migration planning, desktop systems upgrade planning or enterprise support tools.
    • Ability to interact successfully with faculty to identify and support technologies that achieve their pedagogy goals.
    • Ability to successfully provide high-quality direct customer support to faculty and students.
    • Ability to write high-quality technical and end-user documentation for users with a varying range of technical savvy.
    • Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to deliver results within established parameters.
    • Knowledge of information technology security functions and practices.
