Job Req #: 21-06743Job Description: Associate Director, Data Governance, Global IT Data & AnalyticsLocation: Emeryville, CA - This position can be worked remotelyJob Type: FTE/Direct Hire Please note that 5-8 years of Pharmaceutical industry with data governance experience is required.General Description: The Associate Director, Data Governance in the Global IT Data & Analytics team is a highly influential leader who is responsible for developing and implementing an enterprise-wide data governance as part of the data strategy for the company. The strategy will include the development and implementation of the processes, the standard data dictionary (catalog) for the collection, storage, and analysis of data, and achieving the goal that data is a strategic asset of the organization. The execution will require strong collaboration across the business functions within the company.Position Responsibilities:

  • Define, publish, and manage the enterprise Data Governance strategy and framework in partnership with the business & IT leadership.
  • Lead the definition of the master data for the business and the framework for management.
  • Establish ownership and accountability of key data assets.
  • Lead the effort to deploy polices and processes on the use of data for reports and analytics which will help establish a common vocabulary and taxonomy for data across the organization, and achieve data accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
  • Establish an operating model for data governance, including the roles and responsibilities such as data governance body, data stewardship, and the required policies and processes. Organize and facilitate the execution of data governance activities with sustainable operating routines with clear accountabilities including reviews of supporting processes, roles, and responsibilities for optimization.
  • Provide critical leadership to identify data issues and improve data quality across the organization. Ensure enterprise data meets the organization wide reporting and analytics requirements and moves to next level of maturity.
Essential Functions of the job:
  • Engage with the business teams in developing a Data Governance strategy and a roadmap that aligns with key objectives/priorities of the business stakeholders.
  • Establish strong Data Governance framework including stewardship processes to handle exceptions, to integrate and standardize data.
  • Develop strong relationships with data owners and setup a process to review compliance with SOPs and drive continuous improvements.
  • Develop good understanding of the security and compliance needs of the business and IT teams and collaborate with other governance bodies to ensure data consistency.
Qualifications:
  • 5-8 years of Pharmaceutical industry with data governance experience required.
  • Experience and understanding of the cloud environment, e.g., Azure and/or AWS
  • Experience working in a regulated environment such as GxP.
  • Ability to work in a small, fast-paced IT environment.
  • Excellent written / verbal communication, presentation and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a matrixed environment, and an ability to build solid relationships / make connections across the organization.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills and solid business acumen with the ability to manage and provision large amounts of data to enable business analysis with high level of performance and trust.
  • Ability to articulate complex technical problems and solutions to a wide business audience and communicate solution value.
  • Must be able to identify operational weakness and implement corrective action / plan.
Knowledge/Skills
  • Extensive knowledge in data governance and data management in general.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while meeting established deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills with demonstrated high accuracy output.
  • Strong problem solving, reasoning, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written/oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor s degree, and preferably Masters.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in a senior data position.
  • Proven ability to influence, and resolve competing interests, at the most senior levels, and to interface and collaborate effectively with other senior leaders.
  • Extensive experience building and leading a data governance program and making an impact on the business.
  • Established relationships/network with IT service vendors.
