JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Junior Designer

Position: Fulltime / Non-Exempt

Location: Walnut, CA

Manager: No

Reports to: Engineering Manager

SUMMARY OF ROLEThe Junior Designer (Plastic Injection Mold Designer) at Fairway Molds Inc. - A Westfall Technik Company is a position responsible for assisting Engineering Department in day to day requirements associated with designing plastic injection molds. This position reports directly to the General Manager/Vice President and Engineering Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design injection molds according to verbal instructions and engineering drawings
  • Comply with QSR, ISO, QSR, work rules and safety guidelines
  • Create print build packages for manufacturing department
  • Update existing projects in CAD Software
  • Detail mold components in CAD Software
  • Printing and folding of drawings
  • Fully understand and adhere to company standards and practices
  • Interface with team members to determine design and production strategy
  • Ensure design compliance to company and customer engineering standards
  • Support sales team, as required, with layouts and concept reviews
  • Meet schedules and maintain quality standards
  • Exhibit sense of urgency in all activities

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • B.S. in mechanical engineering is preferred although may be waived in lieu of quantifiable experience and achievement
  • Minimum of 3 years employment in the primary function of designing plastic injection molds and/or mold components
  • Must have an above average understanding of mathematics and a strong mechanical aptitude
  • Experience using CAD software such as Solid works, Autodesk, or Unigraphics
  • Formal drafting training is beneficial
  • Competence with Microsoft Office products
  • Proficiency in a wide array of computer and software applications such as: MS Office, Project, Mold Flow, Mold Wizard, Sigma, etc.
  • Great organizational skills and attention to detail in meeting project timelines and budgeted goals
  • Knowledge of blueprint tolerances and GD&T
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good attendance record

VALIDATION / PERFORMANCEThe performance is monitored continuously through various methods. This can include project profitability, adherence to budgeted hours, project quality issues and various other methods. Non-quantitative validation would be the development and nurturing of other engineering team members.
