Location: Morgan Hill or San Diego, CAAs Applications Engineering Manager, you will support a diverse base of sophisticated customers with advanced technical knowledge and support.

  • You will contribute individually while also supervising and growing a team of highly skilled engineers.
  • You will own the communication of product data to customers, including datasheet creation, direct tech support, technical content creation, and applications presentations.
  • You will generate value for customers by solving system level issues.
  • You will collaborate with other stakeholders, such as Design Engineering, Product Engineering, and Sales and Marketing, to ensure that product data is accurately, professionally, and favorably communicated to customers.
  • This is a role for an experienced leader with deep technical knowledge in high frequency electronics and customer support and a hands-on approach.
  • This role reports to VP of Engineering.
Responsibilities:
  • Rapidly solve customer problems and respond to technical inquiries directly and with the support of a team of highly skilled tech support engineers.
  • Own the creation, release, and maintenance of accurate, comprehensive, and sophisticated datasheets expressing deep technical understanding of state-of-the-art products.
  • Collaborate with design and characterization engineering to maintain best in class simulation tools including S-parameters, system simulator models, nonlinear device models, and others.
  • Generate tech notes, application notes, webinars, videos, web tools, and technical articles both in response to common customer inquiries and in anticipation of potential customer applications.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and reliability to provide timely information to customers.
  • Participate in design reviews and work with design engineering teams to fully understand applications and requirements for new products.
  • Translate from product requirements between customers to the design team, including performance advantages, applications circuits, test conditions, and reliability limits.
  • Provide first level troubleshooting response to customers with technical difficulties including RMA requests and material defect reports.
  • Troubleshoot test and measurement issues including equipment setup, calibration, and test conditions to confirm that testing is performed accurately.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversee the career growth and technical development of RF Application engineering team.
  • Manage Application Engineering personnel including talent acquisition, performance management and talent development. Establish strategies to improve skill levels within the teams. Coach team members on organization, time management and people skills.
  • Promote an ethics-based business culture in the organization.
Minimum requirements:
  • MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field,
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering applications positions related to high performance RF products is required.
  • Deep understanding of RF components (Mixers, Passives, Amplifiers, Switches) and RF systems (receivers, signal analyzers, communications systems, radars and electronic warfare systems).
  • Successful track record in customer support and communication.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present technical information to diverse audiences both internal and external.
  • Basic device physics and process knowledge in GaAs, bulk Si and SOI technologies.
  • Experience with in working with RF Test Systems (e.g. Agilent Network Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Signal Generator, VNA) to characterize high frequency devices.
  • Understanding of electronics packaging and manufacturing processes including surface mount packaging, reflow soldering, wire bonding, die attach, circuit board materials, and related topics is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in complex environment with ability to motivate, inspire and drive a talented team of engineers from multiple disciplines (electrical, mechanical, software, technician, etc.) to meet challenging goals.
  • Extremely detail-oriented, accurate, and highly organized.
  • Excellent data analysis skills and a logical approach to problem solving.
  • Highly proficient in a Windows environment and with a recent version of MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams.
