The Information Technology (IT) department for the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians (the Tribe) provides and supports a leading edge technology infrastructure to the enterprise in support of ever changing technological advances in the Gaming industry and the Tribe’s enterprises. The ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is key to the success of the IT staff to meet the demands of this technically proficient and high demand department.The Systems Engineering Manager, working under the guidance of senior management, leads the infrastructure engineering and system administration teams and is responsible for all aspects of managing the server, virtualization and storage systems. This includes system design, reporting, systems management and capacity management across the various system engineering disciplines.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesStrategy & Planning
  • Mentor and develop the Infrastructure Engineers and System Administrators to build a cross functional team.
  • Work closely with enterprise architects to identify emerging system technologies and recommend implementation as necessary for overall improvements to the IT infrastructure.
  • Ensure backup, restore and disaster recovery capabilities continually meet the needs of the business and meet or exceed service level agreements.
  • Assist with purchase justifications and project benefit analysis.
Acquisition & Development
  • Continually research ways to improve the system performance, policies, procedures and tools.
  • Maintain an expert level of knowledge in area of expertise by maintaining certifications, attending seminars or though other related activities.
Operational Management
  • Proactively monitor and validate performance, health and availability of all compute, storage and network systems.
  • Perform Incident, Problem and Change management tasks as determined by management (including but not limited to Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Request for Change (RFC) and event/incident management).
  • Collaborate with IT teams to create, develop and maintain documented policies, procedures, and processes such as operational run books.
  • Lead the troubleshooting of any issues that arise with the infrastructure systems, including, but not limited to, working with third part vendors and partners as well as other SMBMI team members.
  • Other responsibilities, duties, tasks and assignments that contribute to the mitigation or response to the COVID-19 public health emergency
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesCarries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education/Experience/Qualifications
  • Four-year university degree or college diploma in the field of computer science.
  • Eight (8) years’ experience delivering network design services and operational excellence.
  • Equivalent combination of education and direct and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Must have proven experience leading a team in delivering service excellence.
  • Demonstrated leadership and personnel/project management skills.
  • Expert level of knowledge with VMWare, AD, SQL, Windows, Exchange, Sharepoint and Linux in a large enterprise environment is required.
  • Expert level of knowledge with cloud computing and networking is required.
  • Expert level of knowledge of automation platforms and scripting is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in an audience appropriate manner.
  • Expert level critical thinking and possess the ability to resolve complex problems.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
  • Certification in NetApp, VMware, Microsoft, Linux, Cisco, and/or backup suites required.
  • ITIL v3 Foundation certification preferred.
