Position Summary: The person in this role will be a passionate manager with outstanding leadership skills who can function at a high level in a very dynamic environment. This role oversees the Scrum Masters and their assigned scrums and sprints as well as manage their own scrum. Approximately 50% of time will be spent on Scrum Mastering / Project Management and the remaining 50% will be spent as Coach / Mentor and on people management / oversight. This person will have worked as a SCRUM Master and have a passion for SCRUM / Agile Processes and Methodologies, having led by example rather than by dictate, knowing how to bring out the best in people. The Lead Scrum Master will welcome dealing with conflicts and know when it's good to say "No" and when to push for more results.

Job Responsibilities - Other duties may be assigned: • Guiding the team and organization on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to delight customers. • Guiding the team on how to get the most out of self-organization • Guiding the team on self-organizing to fill in the intentional gaps left in the Agile/Scrum frameworks • Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization • Removing impediments or guiding the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment. • Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving. • Facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work. • Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution • Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information • Supporting and educating the Product Owner, especially with respect to grooming and maintaining the product backlog. • Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example • Provide guidance and coaching to the Scrum Master team

Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no direct reports.

Skills and Requirements: • A Bachelor Degree in Business Administration or related field • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Scrum Master • Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I) • Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least five years for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory • Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency • Knowledge of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.) • Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP and Kanban • Excellent communication and mentoring skills Preferred Skills/Experience (Any of these is a plus): • Knowledge of other Agile approaches: Crystal, FDD, etc. • Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least ten years for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory. • Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing • Experience applying a wide variety of well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.) • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions, there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
