The role of the Industrial Maintenance Technician (IMT) is to maintain production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery mechanical and electrical equipment. The IMT is responsible for predictive and preventative maintenance on food processing equipment and associated support equipment. Maintenance is carried out based on manufactures recommendations as well as general industry practices. IMT must also follow USDA, OSHA, and GMP practices and guidelines.

Essential Duties:

Analyze test results, machine error messages, and information obtained from operators in order to diagnose equipment problems.

Clean, lubricate, and adjust parts, equipment, and machinery.

Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs.

Examine parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear.

Observe and test the operation of machinery and equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions, using voltmeters and other testing devices.

Operate newly repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.

Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs.

Troubleshoot, install, repair and maintain the operating condition of industrial production and processing machinery and equipment, to include but not limited to: hydraulic and pneumatic systems, motors, gearboxes, VFD/HMI/Servo control devices, conveying systems, industrial printers, valves, photo eyes, switches, heat exchangers, level controls.

Repair and replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment.

As applicable refer to blueprints and manufacturers' manuals to determine correct installation and operation of machinery.

Operate and support industrial processing, packaging, storage and compressor utility operations.

Cut and weld metal to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, and assemble new equipment.

Demonstrate equipment functions and features to machine operators.

Enter codes and instructions to program computer-controlled machinery.

Complete scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment (planned and unplanned maintenance activities).

Respond to production needs as they occur on the production floor.

Complete accurate and timely documentation of maintenance records, work orders and task records.

Accurately input and record PM (planned and unplanned activities).

Comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).

Comply with federal, state and local safety regulations.

Follow Company GMP guidelines to produce a safe and quality product.

Work together professionally in a team environment with coworkers and other department personnel.

Other duties as required by management.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Good working knowledge of varies types of equipment including but not limited to conveyors, tray formers, tray closures and tapers, coding systems, check weighers, optical sorters, automatic palletizers, stretch wrappers and associated peripherals.

Basic working knowledge of electrical components used in processing and packaging systems like transformers, motors, motor controls, instruments, electrical protection devices.

Ability to document work completed, assign time and parts to proper Work Orders.

Ability to furnish and use hand tools normally expected of an Industrial Maintenance Technician.

Ability to trouble-shoot electrical, hydraulic systems and pneumatic equipment.

Strong electrical background in addition to mechanical skills. Experience with computerized or automated controls and ability to read electric schematics a plus.

Self-motivated and detail–oriented

Ability to work a flexible schedule

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret equipment schematics, drawings, manufacturer’s literature, and technical procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and managers.

Education:

High school diploma or GED required.

Experience:

A minimum of two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Manufacturing environment experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

Candidate must possess a strong working knowledge of processing and packaging systems. Strong communications skills, with the ability to read and write in English. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Ability to create momentum and foster organizational change. Bilingual in Spanish is beneficial.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers, handle, feel, type; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl; visual acuity including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus talk or hear and taste or smell in a wet, cold and/or humid environment. The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted.

Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job in a food manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to wet and / or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Approximately; 95% of work is performed in a manufacturing environment. 5% of work may involve being in an office environment.
