Long-term research position for stem cell Ph.D. at Stanford
California, San francisco bay area 00000 San francisco bay area USA

Vacancy expired!

The Fraser Lab at Stanford University is seeking a Basic Life Science Research Scientist to join our research team. This is a great opportunity for a Ph.D.-level scientist to secure a long-term position in an exciting academic lab.

We study the evolution of complex traits by developing new experimental and computational methods. Our work brings together quantitative genetics, genomics, epigenetics, and evolutionary biology to achieve a deeper understanding of how genetic variation shapes the phenotypic diversity of life.

We have recently developed a new platform for studying human cis-regulatory evolution: human-chimpanzee hybrid iPS cells (Agoglia et al, Nature 2021; Gokhman et al, Nature Genetics 2021). These hybrid cells can be differentiated into a wide range of cell types and 3D organoids in order to uncover the genetic basis of human-specific traits. There are many exciting applications of this technology.

In this position, your job would be to design and coordinate experiments related to the hybrid iPS cells, including differentiation into other cell types; study the resulting cell types to reveal insights into human evolution; perform CRISPR genome editing experiments to test hypotheses about specific candidate genes; participate in the writing of manuscripts and grants; mentor students in the lab; and help keep the lab organized.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field, ideally with a strong background in iPS cell culture and differentiation. Experience in next-gen sequencing, CRISPR genome editing, or neuroscience would also be welcome.

Diversity:

We believe that increasing diversity is essential, not only to improve our science but our society as well. We encourage those with a variety of experiences and backgrounds to apply to our lab, and are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for everyone.
