We are an established litigation firm with an easy access office in a great setting in San Mateo. Practice is comprised of business litigation defense representing a Fortune 500 company, as well as a growing mediation practice. We are a small close-knit firm looking for a sharp Legal Assistant to join our team.

The Role:

You have experience with civil litigation, are a self-starter but also a team player; take pride in getting the job done right, and willing to take responsibility for directing day to day functioning of the office; have a good sense of humor, excellent communication skills and enjoy interacting and collaborating with people; can think for yourself and are motivated to produce a good work product. You start out each day ready to rock and roll.

In this role you will be the lead legal assistant responsible for: maintaining the calendar, helping with case assessment and evaluation, analyzing records and interviewing case witnesses, drafting and analyzing discovery responses and settlement documents and assisting with litigation strategy. You are detail oriented, have good analytical skills, can gather and assess the facts and background and articulate a written case evaluation, and understand the various rules of court.

Looking for the right person who is reliable, dedicated and motivated - but also has interests and a life outside the office that contributes to overall balance and perspective.

Requirements:

-Minimum 3 years litigation experience in California, with working knowledge of Calif Code of Civil Procedure (CCP) as well as Superior Court rules and procedures for Northern California counties. Federal knowledge is a plus.

-Hands-on experience with civil litigation discovery and trial preparation

-Experience evaluating and assessing cases; whether from insurance defense or other litigation perspective

-Detailed knowledge of MS Office (including Word, Excel and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat

-Case management software experience (we use Time Matters - easy to learn if you have not used previously)

-Familiarity with legal forms software, LexisNexis & e-filing

-You have excellent English language skills - both written and verbal

-Experience with timekeeping and billable hours highly preferred

-Paralegal Certificate or equivalent on the job experience as a Litigation Assistant; College Degree a plus

-You live locally so it's a short hop to the office
