Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture’s (SEEAG) mission is to educate students and the greater community about the farm origins of their food and agriculture’s contribution to our nutritional well-being. SEEAG educates over 8,000 students a year in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties with three education programs: Farm Lab, the Child Wellness Initiatives, and STEAM Careers in Agriculture.
SEEAG is seeking an experienced and passionate full-time educator to assist with our Farm Lab and Child Wellness Initiative education programs in Ventura County. This position will work both remotely and in-person at various locations throughout Ventura County teaching both agricultural and wellness/ nutrition-related curriculum to elementary school students. To be considered all applicants must have applicable experience in the fields of both agriculture and nutrition (include specifics in your resume). A reliable form of transportation and a clean driving record are also a must. Work is performed under the supervision of the program director. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Conduct SEEAG’s agricultural education program (Farm Lab) online, in schools and on farms throughout the County.
● Conduct SEEAG’s nutrition education program (Child Wellness Initiative) online and at schools throughout the County.
● Contribute to program curriculum, lesson plans and content.
● Perform consistent teacher outreach to schedule presentations throughout the year.
● Send program pre-surveys and teacher emails before all presentations.
● Collect program post-surveys and send follow-up emails after all presentations.
● Enter pre and post-survey results into the database when needed.
● Enter classroom and field trip results into Google spreadsheets weekly.
● Assist with coordination of event logistics when it pertains to programs.
● Attend Ventura County education events on behalf of SEEAG.
● Anticipated Hours: Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM (32 - 40 hrs/wk)Must live in Ventura County and be willing and able to travel across the County and occasionally to Santa Barbara County (work related mileage costs are reimbursable).
QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
● Bilingual in English and Spanish languages REQUIRED. Trilingual in Mixtec a plus.
● Bachelor's degree in education, agricultural communications, nutrition, or related subject.
● Must be comfortable teaching outdoors.
● Strong communication skills with elementary school students and teachers.
● Strong ability to relate, interact and teach elementary school students.
● Strong written, oral communication skills and excellent phone manner.
● Ability to initiate communication with school administrators, teachers, club leaders.
● Ability to multitask in a dynamic, grassroots nonprofit environment.
● Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a team.
● Perform occasional farm-related tasks such as harvesting, planting, weeding, and other general farm and property maintenance.
● Ability to develop effective work plans, set priorities, organize details, and meet deadlines.
● Clean driving record and dependable car required.
● Dependable computer required for work from home job portion.
● Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
● Ability to develop long-term relationships with school administrators, teachers, and PTA advisors.
● Experience and/or knowledge of educational methodologies.
● Experience in nonprofit management & development preferred.
● Education or experience in environmental programming preferred.
● Education or experience working with the public preferred.
● Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, social media platforms, Canva, Prezi, and Adobe software.
● Experience in agricultural sciences, environmental education and nutrition is a plus.
