About This Role

The successful candidate will drive innovation and downstream process development at Biogen. They will provide technical leadership within their team and across the organization in the development of harvest, chromatography and filtration operations. They will also be responsible for identifying and driving innovation and continuous improvement efforts. The candidate will participate in the department leadership team that defines project allocation and resource investments in process development. The ability to manage their team to efficiently achieve the scientific project goal, maintain operational excellence, meet project timelines and to influence other stakeholders across the development organization is a key responsibility of this position.

WhatYou’llDo

  • Develop robust purification processes for a diverse pipeline of proteins (fusion proteins, bispecifics, conjugates)
  • Establish and lead long-term development plans to achieve CMC goals, proactively identifying and addressing program risks
  • Mentor junior staff to advance project goals and provide them with coaching and career development opportunities
  • Identify, pursue and drive forward novel innovation to advance downstream bioprocessing
  • Provide technical expertise to team and peers across the organization (across multiple sites) to advance the overall pipeline beyond the programs directly responsible
  • Collaboratively define scientific scope cross-functionally and drive project, CMC and department technology milestones
  • Publish manuscripts on novel work and present externally at industry forums and conferences
  • Support manufacturing transfers and troubleshoot in conjunction with Manufacturing Sciences
  • Document development work and department strategy in concise reports and provide project updates in written and oral presentations

Who YouAre

The ideal candidate will have experience in managing a team (either within a line function or a cross functional project team) and have a working knowledge of manufacturing and CMC considerations. A demonstrated track record of leading and driving innovation work from proof of concept through implementation and experience with biosimilars and/or novel formats such as bispecific antibodies and conjugates are also desired.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in chemical engineering, biochemistry, or other related science with 6+ years of experience
  • M.S. in chemical engineering, biochemistry, or other related science with 10+ years of experience
  • Supervisory 3+ yearsexperience
  • Experience in mentoring, developing junior staff and leading development teams
  • Expertise in purification technologies, including chromatography and filtration
  • Excellent track record of publications and presentations
