Job Title: Manufacturing Automation Engineer

Location: Chester, VA (Richmond)

What we’re looking for:

The Manufacturing Automation Engineer will be responsible for design, specification, programming, simulation and testing, installation and start-up assistance, and production support of automated production systems. The ideal candidate will have engineering experience with designing and implementing manufacturing processes using automation.

What you’ll be responsible for in this role:

  • Implement PLC and HMI programming standards across manufacturing equipment
  • Develop automation Scope of Work documents for new projects

  • Provide oversite of contracted Integrators or Suppliers

  • Develop automation solutions in conjunctions with operations teams to improve equipment availability, quality, cycle time

  • Collaborate with product design teams on Design for Manufacturing for new product launches

  • Support development of MES system

  • Support, maintain, and implement where necessary the machine control network

  • Identify opportunities for advanced manufacturing projects in existing manufacturing processes

  • Act as automation subject matter expert on CAPEX projects

  • Maintain and update equipment standard document

What are the basic qualifications?

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; a degree in an Engineering discipline is a plus

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar position is required.

What are the preferred qualifications?

  • Certification and/or training in Allen-Bradley and Rockwell Automation products a plus

  • Experience in Automotive, Food Processing, Bio-Tech, Pharmaceutical, Semiconductor, or Water/Wastewater industries is a plus.

  • Proven experience in project management, automation development, and programming

  • MES development and implementation

  • Industrial network design

  • PLC, Operator Interface, HMI, and Robot programming

  • Electro-mechanical system troubleshooting

  • Identifying automation opportunities and business benefits

  • Robot programming experience preferred
