Position SummaryThe primary purpose of this position is to manage and maintain IT infrastructure environments for Managed Services customers that may include but are not limited to: IBM Z parallel SYSPLEX, IBM Z operating systems, zLinux systems and associated IBM and ISV software products (Independent Software Vendor) and IBM Z network infrastructure environments. The Managed Services Sr. Engineer ensures high levels of availability and execution of the supported systems and business applications. This position will focus upon the operational stability, maintenance and performance of parallel SYSPLEX infrastructures within customer and/or hosted data center environments.The Sr. Engineer is a client facing support representative that works with designated accounts and acts as a value-added technical advocate for Sirius Managed Services clients. A Sr. Engineer is responsible for understanding clients’ business requirements as they pertain to Managed Services solutions, recommending enhancements and/or improvements to parallel SYSPLEX configurations and establishing solutions that meet customer expectations and correspond to the appropriate MS offerings and/or contractual obligations. This role can interact with client personnel both at the C-level and throughout the client’s organization. The Sr. Engineer takes a consultative approach to influence client thinking on strategic initiatives, spur innovative approaches and drive successful client business outcomes.The Sr. Engineer has deep subject matter expertise in solutions across multiple technical towers such as z/OS architecture, coupling facility performance and hardware configurations. All deliverables to the client add value, earn trust and increase customer satisfaction. As a Sr. Engineer, at times will be a a single point of contact for multiple initiatives, serve as a team leader and mentor others within Sirius Managed Services. The Sr. Engineer positions Managed Services mainframe support as a strategic service to the customer.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Client Facing Technical Support – Partners with the Managed Services Account Management team, interfacing directly with Sirius Managed Services clients. Builds trusted advisor relationships, understanding clients’ business challenges and proposing solutions to complex situations
  • Client facing work will include but is not limited to:
  • Researching current and emerging technologies within the IBM Z platform, evaluating trends, identifying optional alternatives, making recommendations and presenting to client management
  • Developing High Level Designs and Architectures – Creates and documents architectures that address client business problems that can be leveraged to ensure a smooth and/or seamless transition to implementation
  • Mentors and coordinates other mainframe engineers to apply background expertise toward analyzing and enhancing client parallel SYSPLEX configurations and z/OS technical support
  • Administrative Overhead – Responds to email, phone calls in a timely manner, completes time reporting measures, expense reports and status reports as required
  • Training – Develops and executes a professional plan that will enhance skills

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field
  • At least 5 years of IT engineering experience dealing with IBM Z infrastructure solutions with a specific focus upon parallel SYSPLEX configurations, including five (5) years of experience with large enterprise clients that have a mainframe platform

Other Position Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to apply technical background and knowledge to business direction by developing technical solutions to complex mainframe environments and presenting corresponding benefits and disadvantages in a logical and readily identifiable manner
  • Demonstrate ability to drive successful resolution to large enterprise IBM Z clients sequencing approaches and associated execution to the client to earn trust and enhance customer satisfaction
  • Proven experience articulating technical viewpoints to diverse audiences, including technical and business decision makers
  • Proven ability to evaluate information and make sound technical risk judgements
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and to prioritize workload under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop longer-range project plans and schedules to complete complex projects or new solution development and deployment
  • Demonstrated ability to perform technical skills/knowledge transfer to peers and client as needed
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and follow-up skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, delegation and personnel management skills
  • Demonstrated communication and presentation skills, including formal and informal presentations to large and small audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Technical writing experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior team leadership and/or mentorship or similar level experience in an enterprise IT environment
  • Prior experience leading technical teams in a client or consulting project environment
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting multi-million dollar enterprise-size complex initiatives
  • Ten (10) or more years of IT engineering experience dealing with IBM Z infrastructure solutions
