As a member of the Information Technology department at Synthetic Genomics, you will work as part of a team of systems administrators to implement and support the systems that employees rely on to do their work. This position focuses on supporting SaaS infrastructure as well as informatics HPC infrastructure. Responsibilities include VMware, AWS, Kubernetes, and physical Linux server deployment. The candidate would also be on a 24x7 on-call rotation, maintain and update our monitoring system, and support our MySQL installation. On the development side, the candidate would support the infrastructure for an in-house SaaS web application and associated backend systems, which includes our HPC infrastructure. Candidate should be familiar with DevOps principles and deployment pipelines.

Required Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and work as an effective team member.
  • Cooperative and service-oriented attitude; must be able to work under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • IT Automation software such as Puppet or Ansible.
  • Continuous integrations tools such as Jenkins, etc.
  • Amazon Web Services including EC2, VPC, RDS and ELB.
  • 4+ years of systems administration and engineering experience in a Linux-centric, multi-user environment.
  • RedHat-based Linux distributions such as CentOS
  • Writing system scripts and utilities in Python, perl, bash, etc.
  • Administration of MySQL, Apache & IPtables.
  • Virtual machine, Linux Container technology & concepts.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental Internet technologies, such as IP, TCP, UDP, ICMP, DNS and associated applications, including HTTP, SNMP, VPNs.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation

Useful Skills but Not Required:
  • Large-scale (multi-TB) MySQL administration.
  • SOLR Cloud & Zookeeper
  • Management of large quantities of servers.
  • HTML, CSS & Javascript programming.
  • SLURM, LSF or other job management software.
