Discovery Living, LLC is looking for a live-in caregiver for our women's group home in Eagle River. We have openings for part-time and on-call positions.

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for providing quality care for individuals who experience developmental disability, mental illness and other challenges, with the goal of increasing the individual competence and cognitive ability of each resident. We create an independent living environment in a home atmosphere that supports the residents and helps them with day to day activities. The clients are primarily self-sufficient, however, they will require supervision and direction. We supply 24-hour staff and administration for our home, with all of our clients.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Our activities include, but are not limited to: the Zoo, light hiking at Eagle River Nature Center or Winner Creek trail in Girdwood, touring the Alaska Wildlife Refuge center, movies, video games, puzzles, attending their doctor appointments, shopping, etc. Routine safety checks on each client and their rooms, prepping for the next day's activities, charting progress notes and other duties in/around the facility. Assisting clients with activities associated with daily living such as; preparing meals, dressing, and bathing, cleaning their rooms, laundry, and, of course, having fun.

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Ability to act in an honest and professional manner, as well as the skill to handle sensitive issues with discretion and confidentiality. Flexibility with respect to time and days able to work, as well as work tasks. Possess the ability to maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationships with clients, families and the community as a whole. To nurture relationships, encourage program participation and involvement through patience, compassion, commitment, and respect. Ability to maintain operations to include planning, carrying out activities, maintaining a safe and clean environment, supervising clients, and, if applicable, volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS: You must be at least 21 years old and high school graduate or G.E.D. A current First Aid/CPR certification, or must acquire within 1 week of hire. Must successfully complete TB screening exam, or clearance from a Dr. In addition, must be able to pass a criminal background check as required by state law (the cost is $75 + $35 for fingerprints).Discovery Living helps residents become the best version of themselves; we strive to make each person as independent as possible by creating a positive and caring environment.
