Description SAIC has an opening for a
Senior Data Engineer. This is a remote position. The Senior Database Engineer will work with the Data Warehouse Architect design, implement and support a modern data warehouse and business intelligence platform at enterprise scale. Help develop innovative team solutions to complex, challenging data problems. Design business intelligence solutions based on SAIC's strategic data analytics needs, coordinating with the Chief Data Officer to capture and verify business requirements, and develop user stories based on those requirements to track work using Azure DevOps. Participate in Agile ceremonies. Develop strong relationships with other teams and participate in cross-functional teams where it makes sense. Support the data warehouse and business intelligence platforms, including configurations, deployment between environments, and documentation. Create designs and documentation appropriate for both technical and non-technical audiences. Proactively identify new platform features in response to business needs, including managing project and release schedules for enhancements. Design and build data models. Help develop and maintain SSIS Packages, SSAS tabular models, and Power BI/SSRS reports to support data integration and business requirements. Write and tune T-SQL stored procedures and ad-hoc queries to support ETL to deliver accurate data. Write and tune measures and calculation groups to support BI solutions. Help to identify enhancements and support maintenance of data governance and security practices. Keep current on industry approaches, architectures, vendors, and software. Provide thought leadership to the team on how new trends and thinking can improve our business. Use excellent communication skills to explain benefits and trade-offs of proposed new solutions and tactics to technical and non-technical audiences. Cultivate relationships and partnerships with new and existing vendors to help accelerate solutions and drive solution quality. Consult with team members, internal clients, vendors, and even other organizations on the best solutions to complex issues. Represent the team to external/internal clients. Demonstrate technical leadership, both to the team, and externally. Qualifications Education and experience:- Bachelor's degree in IT or related degree and 9+ years of experience, Master's Degree and 7+ years of expereince, additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- 8+ years' experience with data warehousing
- 8+ years' experience with physical and logical data modeling, ETL and report design.
- 5+ years' experience with Microsoft BI
- 5+ years' experience developing dashboards and KPIs, including design, data engineering and management, deployment, support, and best practices
- 8+ years' experience with SQL, including complex logic, stored procedures, SQL to support ETL, and data discovery and forensics
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure - Data Warehouse, ADF, SSAS
- Experience with Azure DevOps
- Highly organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to meet external deadlines
- Experience with scaling solutions to support large, complex data environments
- Desire to learn, both independently and guided
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills; able to convey complex concepts effectively
- Good multitasker, thrives in a fast-paced, constantly shifting environment
- Trustworthy - able to maintain confidentiality when required
