Job Description

The Western Digital Media Test Engineering team in San Jose, CA is seeking a Test Process Engineer who is highly motivated to work in a challenging and dynamic engineering environment. The media test team is responsible for the development and implementation of hardware/software/process/automation solutions in R&D environment, implementing those solutions at worldwide manufacturing sites, along with sustaining activities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The test process engineer will be part of the WD Media Test Engineering organization & will play a key role in development & qualification of new media test processes with respect to optical test, glide & magnetic certification.
  • Develop specific test processes based on product requirements, monitor test results and optimize test processes as needed.
  • Also, bridge the gap between test hardware & software teams to qualify, debug & deploy new features. Propose new test features as needed.
  • Transfer new testing processes to Asia manufacturing sites and work closely with engineering teams to identify & troubleshoot issues related to test processes.
  • Write technical reports, test specifications, procedures & conduct necessary applications training.
  • Work with end users and cross functional teams to develop and maintain data analysis tools using dashboards for various manufacturing and pilot line systems.
  • International travel may be required (up to 10%)

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Engineering with 2-3 years in relevant positions. Prior work in applications engineering is a plus.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of analytical toolsets like JMP, Minitab, SAS, Python or similar. Experience in SPC or process control is a plus along with Python or machine learning.
  • Experience working with electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, spectrum analyzers, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electronic equipment & analyze complex problems. Experience with integrated optical test systems is a plus.
  • The candidate must be self-motivated, with demonstrated ability to work with cross functional teams. Experience working with Asia is a plus.
  • Must have good communication skill
