Senior Analyst, Computational Dynamics
Vacancy expired!
Material Scientist The Senior Analyst will be an integral part of the Analytical Packaging Testing group. Working independently to develop technical / computational models to predict packaging and delivery performance. The computational dynamics role will handle the most advanced and complex projects evaluating packaging components to predict functionality, and package compatibility early on in the process focusing on computational dynamics tools and simulations such as being able to run FEA modeling drop, assembly stress, thermal/cycle and fluid dynamics to assess risk and recommend solutions to achieve successful package testing. Senior Analyst is a skilled individual contributor demonstrating collaboration, delivering sustained important contributions that impact both new or improved products, packages, devices and testing methodologies. Responsibilities:
- Determines appropriate technical modeling methodology (1st principle vs empirical vs computational or combination of) based on package functionality and package testing protocols / requirements.
- Develop technical models to predict packaging performance and product delivery leveraging first principles and empirical data from experiments. Preserve the IP of technical models from sharing externally.
- Partners in developing predictive analytical test methods and accelerated consumer use / simulation test methods
- Performs technical evaluation of package/component functionality to rapidly develop understanding of beauty / cosmetic packaging mechanism and confirm technical model accuracy.
- Conduct mechanical and fluid dynamics FEA
- Model packaging integrity such as drop testing, assembly stress, and thermal/cycle environment
- Conduct Moldflow analysis for plastic molding simulation
- Uses technical knowledge gained through formal education and practical experience to document and summarize data for review and interpretation. Makes recommendations for next steps when required.
- Communicates results and observations to project team in a timely, reliable and robust manner.
- Investigate and report on emerging technologies in computational modeling, predictive tools and sensing instrumentation relevant to packaging
- Conducts problem solving analyses partnering with manufacturing, pkg engineering, material science, quality, pkg development, suppliers, and collects relevant data to input into the models for recommended resolutions for formulations / packaging components.
- Works closely with suppliers and internal business partners on the procurement of testing materials.
- Provides guidance and manages junior staff member.
- Bachelors Degree in Material Science/ Plastics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with concentration in applied mathematics / first principle technical and computational modeling
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated; Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills
- Familiarity with CAD (preferably Solidworks) and interpretation of 2D part design technical drawings.
- Familiarity of basic material properties and applications (glass, plastics, metals)
- Experience in interpretation of rheology of complex-structured fluids
- FEA experience
- Experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics
- Experience in Moldflow / Plastic molding simulation
