The U. S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas is one of the largest district courts among the country's 94 federal judicial districts. The district courts, combined with the appellate courts and the Supreme Court, make up the judicial branch of the federal government. The Southern District of Texas is a consolidated court supporting both District and Bankruptcy courts and consists of the following seven divisional offices: Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Galveston, Houston, Laredo, McAllen and Victoria.The United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas has an immediate need for a full time Database Administrator for the nationally supported CM/ECF application. This position is open to external and internal candidates and can be located in any of the Southern District of Texas divisions.The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills, professional demeanor, and ability to exercise sound judgment; will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written; excellent organizational skills, and a good working knowledge of and experience programming in a Linux and Informix environment. Pay range: CL 27/28

Representative Duties:
  • Provides technical database systems support and administration, including the installation of new version releases and ancillary applications.
  • Performs daily administration, maintenance, and performance monitoring on all Linux servers.
  • Develops custom informational, statistical reports, and database repairs for multiple departments at the court.
  • Designs, modifies, and implements short and long-range automation improvement plans for the court, ensuring that changes can be implemented with minimal disruption to the work of the court.
  • Customizes CM/ECF application testing, installing, and documenting new releases of applications and Operating System software required to meet court operations and customer requirements. Coordinates with Operations personnel and IT staff as required.
  • Participates extensively in all ECF upgrade efforts including migration to NextGen. This includes custom configurations\local mods, testing, coordination with other stakeholders, and documenting the change process.
  • Works with local development staff to: perform security evaluations on new technologies, make modifications to local applications, implement and test new software, document relevant changes.
  • Monitors national communications for issues impacting other courts and contribute to discussions about possible solutions when possible.
  • Establishes, coordinates, and delivers training for IT staff as requested.
  • Performs other related duties or special projects, as assigned.

Qualifications:The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience in writing and analyzing SQL queries in MySQL and Informix database for custom reporting. They will also have experience in support of application software developed in one or more object-oriented languages such as Java, Perl, and/or JavaScript as well as a solid working knowledge of Red Hat Linux operating system and the Informix RDBMS, including shell operations and scripting. Experience with GIT and software version control, as well as Server Studio, or similar products, is preferred. Must have experience with database and server hardening against unauthorized internal and external access. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with, supporting, and upgrading NextGen CM/ECF.
