Principal Data Scientist

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • MBA, MS, PhD in Statistics, Applied Math, Economics, Computer Science or related fields
  • 8+ years of industry experience in predictive modeling, data science, and analysis, or equivalent experience
  • Strong expertise in solving complex and highly impactful quantitative problems with at least one scripting language (Python or R - we use both) and SQL
  • Strong strategic thought leadership to identify business needs, drive towards tactical solutions for those needs
  • Ability to drive multiple project simultaneously and influence business partners to prioritize key initiatives
  • Innovative thinker and creative problem-solver who is able and willing to challenge the status quo
  • Strong statistical knowledge and intuition - ideally used in A/B testing, observational studies or other forms of causal inference
  • High level of comfort with analytical approaches and quantitative methods to deal with very large datasets
  • Ability to write ad-hoc data pipelines and ETLs for self-use if need be
  • Proficient in Python or R
  • Proficient with SQL, Google BigQuery

  • Extensive exposure to all aspects of Retail/eCommerce from the technical, strategic, and operational perspective

Responsibilities:
  • Consultative mindset to assist internal business partners by being able to deliver a ML project from beginning to end, including understanding the business need, aggregating data, exploring data, building & validating predictive models, and deploying completed models with concept-drift monitoring and retraining to deliver business impact to the organization
  • Ability to apply rudimentary models to understand baseline of business problem, and figure best path forward to become incrementally better, while understanding cause and effect relationships
  • Own a set of data science solutions (i.e., predictive models) in your area(s) of expertise
  • Help evolve the Client’s Data Science function to be more sophisticated and structured for improving speed to market of our data products
  • Partner with Analytics team members and other functions to share insights and best practices, ensuring consistency of data-driven decision-making throughout the org
  • Provide mentorship to less experienced data scientists
