Carpenter recently expanded its AM capabilities to provide a complete "powder-to-part" solution to accelerate materials innovation, offer rapid prototyping, and streamline parts production.TITLE OF POSITION: Process Metallurgist-R & DLOCATION: Hartsville, SCOVERVIEW: Metallurgist to provide a range of technical services to internal and external customers supporting the attainment of Company and division goals. Adherence to and promotion of strong safety standards required. Experience in a lean manufacturing environment preferred.PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Properly disposition referred, non-conforming and off-standard materials, including but not limited to RMR and customer claims
  • Apply statistical methods to solve problems and design experiments
  • Build knowledge of the company processes and customers
  • Solve a range of straightforward problems-analyzing possible solutions and assessing each using standard procedures
  • Serve as a mentor to internal resources in narrow functional areas as requested
  • Provide support and guidance to peers and manager in key projects with moderate assistance
  • Work with others to achieve team goals through expanded knowledge and skills within respective function
  • Respond to non-standard requests from customers and investigate with assistance from others as needed
  • May be accountable for subsets related to project deliverables
  • Ensure a safe work environment
  • Complete all other duties and projects as requested
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Associate degree
  • One + years' metallurgical experience
  • Working knowledge of metallurgical processes and production equipment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills-verbal, written, and the ability to listen intently
  • Ability to access mill and manufacturing areas
  • Ability to do limited travel
PREFERRED:
  • Four-year college degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or related field
  • Knowledge of statistical methods, six-sigma, and/or BPI practices
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions
