Our competitive compensation and benefit programs reflect Boehringer Ingelheim's high regard for our employees.Duties & Responsibilities:Independently design and perform scientific experiments with a predefined goal including developing new methodologies, protocols and/or test procedures that contribute to core group/research goals and reflect expert knowledge. Directs and oversee experimental study design and data analysis/results of scientists and technicians working on new and innovative vaccine concepts against viral diseases of swine.

Contributes to defining swine R&D team goals and collaborates with scientists within and outside functional area in achieving them; Assumes departmental responsibility for projects OR has ability to participate as representative on multiple project teams and contribute to defining swine viral vaccine research strategy and drive its implementation to support POC studies.

Prepares clear technical reports, publications and oral presentations. Independently communicate results in the form of reports and/ or presentations; Deliver updates to senior level management in context of overall project goals.

Demonstrates an expertise in swine virology and genetic engineering technology. Provides guidance and expertise to advance specific projects or evaluate and propose new technologies and concepts in support of multiple projects.

Develops broad knowledge in field of expertise, including the ability to interpret current literature relevant to R&D projects, and visibility outside of functional area.

Assumes responsibility for direct reports as needed including recruiting, managing, mentoring and developing scientific staff.

Complies with all applicable regulations; Ensures that work performed in area of responsibility is conducted in a safe and compliant manner; Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies.

Contributes to departmental administration; Demonstrates fiscal responsibility with respect to cost of experiments, technology, external collaborations, and travel.

For facilities, projects and processes under your responsibility:

Ensure laboratory facility and equipments are well maintained.

Stay current with policies and SOPs regarding safe operations in the laboratory. Ensure laboratory scientists and technicians are well trained and up-to-date with respect to safety and handling of infectious agents.

Ensure compliance with all relevant corporate, national and local authority regulations.

Requirements:Ph.D./DVM Degree level from an accredited institution with a minimum of seven (7) years of broad experience in a related field with proven track record of implementing or investigating technologies at a global level.

A strong background in swine virology and proven record of research accomplishment in one or more viral diseases of swine and hands-on experience in vaccine development is essential.

Extensive experiences in using sequence analysis software programs is essential.

Experience in molecular modeling and structural bioinformatics is preferred.

Strong background in theory and performance of DNA and RNA amplification techniques, cloning and expression techniques, protein and nucleic acid biochemical methods, and cultivation of and analysis of microbes.

Strong trouble-shooting skills and ability to function in multi-disciplinary teams will be a significant advantage.

Excellent abilities to create written scientific reports and protocols, and strong verbal communication skills are required.

Supervisory experience and working in project teams is required.

A proven track-record of peer-reviewed publications, patents and presentations at conferences.

Ability to clearly articulate scientific and operational concepts of vaccine research across functions.

Good planning, prioritization, problem solving, and organizational skills.

First hand knowledge in swine viral diseases and design of subunit based vaccines.

A through understanding of technology platforms for the expression of subunit proteins and VLPs. Familiarity with vaccine development requirements – consistent with International Standards e.g. US: CVB and EU: Ph. Eur. Requirements.

Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities:A background in antigen design and epitope mapping is highly desirable.

Eligibility Requirements:Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).

Must be 18 years of age or older.
