Carpenter recently expanded its AM capabilities to provide a complete "powder-to-part" solution to accelerate materials innovation, offer rapid prototyping, and streamline parts production.TITLE OF POSITION: Manager IIIMetallurgyLOCATION: Athens, ALOVERVIEW: Will develop and direct an assigned Metallurgy/Technology group by providing leadership to managers, first-level supervisors, and professional staff. Experience in a lean manufacturing strong preferred. Promotion of a strong safety culture required. PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Establish goals, strategies, objectives, and priorities in support of a manufacturing plan with the objective of producing a reliable, cost-effective, consistent, quality product for Carpenter customers
  • Supervise, motivate, coach/counsel, and objectively evaluate the performance of Regional Metallurgy Staff
  • Manage to ensure that expeditious metallurgical support is provided to customers, Product Metallurgy, Marketing, R & D, and other departments, when required
  • Develop and maintain strong cooperative and productive working relationships with peers, subordinates, and superiors in all departments
  • Develop departmental plans including business, production, and/or organizational priorities
  • Serve as an individual contributor to provide direct metallurgical field support to customers with assigned region
  • Identify technology trends and required product attribute changes at customer locations
  • Effectively communicate to appropriate departments within Carpenter
  • Promote ways to improve the qualify of life and protect the environment in the communities in which Carpenter does business
  • Identify and resolve complex technical, operations, and organizational problems
  • Develop relationships with key customers to identify emerging needs
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Four-year college degree in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Quality Engineering or related Engineering or Science discipline
  • Ten + years' experience in a metallurgical or R & D staff position
  • Proven ability to train and develop other individuals
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to make appropriate technical and business decisions
  • Experience in a production-oriented environment
PREFERRED:
  • Management experience in a lean manufacturing environment strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis methodology
  • Ability to execute business plans and achieve goals
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills-verbal, written, and the ability to listen intently
  • Ability to resolve conflict
  • Ability to manage intellectual property
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
  • Project management experience/skills
