Job DetailsPosition Summary:Linux Engineer installs and monitors Linux open-source operating systems and caters to the client's needs in this environment. The individual also resolves user issues, address change management requests, and identifies potential issues by implementing protective measures.Job Responsibilities:Design, install, and maintain our Linux systems with a focus on uptime and performance in a mission critical environment.Ensure proper testing is performed during deployment.Research and evaluate new technology and approaches, make recommendations to management.Create and clarify technical requirements, system documentation, training materials, and change management documentation.Monitor systems and Infrastructure and analyze system trends such as storage and compute usage trends.Serve as a Systems AdministratorAdvise management on in-house and industry technology trends.Contract with, and supervise outside specialists and consultants.Remains current on job-specific knowledge and trends through training, conferences, seminars.Serve as a liaison across the organization to investigate and resolve technology problems.Works to ensure backup procedures are implemented and executed properly.Responds to 24-hour calls for emergency technical assistance, per on-call rotation schedule.Work with users to resolve issues that have been escalated within the Infrastructure Team.Document systems and applications.Coordinate systems and technology implementation plans with staff and outside vendors.Required Qualifications:5+ years of experience designing & architecting Linux environmentsUnderstanding of cloud technologies, such as AWS, Azure, etc.Experience with managing Ansible or other CMS administration and supportGeneral experience with MMR (Management, monitoring and reporting), specifically with Nagios, Solarwinds Orion and/or ELK stack is desirableExperience configuring and maintaining SELinux and firewalldUser maintenance tasks with knowledge of the integration with Active DirectoryAbility to setup and install of a full Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP (LAMP) environment from scratchKnowledge of Linux networking setupUnderstanding of Yum and RPM for package managementAbility to write scripts in one of the major shell scripting languages for use in cron and for system administrationUnderstanding of Postfix configurationUnderstanding of SambaUnderstanding of SSH, RSA keys and their setupUnderstanding of the Linux init processUnderstanding how to monitor CPU, memory, disk space, and overall performance is essentialPreferred Qualifications:Associate's or Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in related fieldRedHat Certification is a definite plusExperience with IBM HPC, gpfs and TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager)Background in Perl, grep, sed, awkUnderstanding of how enterprise server hardware is setup and how to add devices to the configurationWorking knowledge of Microsoft Windows System Administration in order to be able to communicate effectively with other members of the SysAdmin teamExperience with Load Sharing Facility (Platform LSF) is highly desirableExperience with IBM HPC (High Performance Compute) platform is highly desirableInterested in hearing more?
