As a MEP Technician II, the employee is responsible for providing technical assistance to TierPoint and its customers in the Data Center. The employee is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and service on the electrical and/or mechanical systems supporting the Data Center. The employee will educate and train other TierPoint personnel on tasks related to the mechanical-electrical systems and components. The employee will be primarily responsible for facility electrical / mechanical systems, documentation and ongoing service and support. This position is critical, as failure of these systems to function properly would result in millions of dollars in lost revenue and damaged equipment as well as significant legal liability for TierPoint.

  • Support HVAC and environmental operations
  • Provide remote hands and eyes support for internal or external client issues
  • Ensure all aspects of the physical infrastructure are kept clean and orderly
  • Perform routine physical inspections for alarm identification and operational issues
  • Understand and follow escalation procedures
  • Adhere to security procedures and controls
  • Follow all safety guidelines and best practices
  • Support office operations
  • Operate, troubleshoot, repair and perform preventative maintenance of TierPoint’s mechanical systems and components. These can include, but are not limited to: CRAC/CRAH units, condensing coils, rooftop units, chillers, cooling towers, and associated components for HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • The position is responsible for responding to 7/24-hour electrical and mechanical operational issues, which requires off-hour coverage via mobile phone.
  • In emergency situations, dispatch technicians and or vendors, as needed, in the absence of Management.
  • Analyze and educate other TierPoint personnel on evaluating alarm and event trending.
  • Extensive knowledge in all aspects of Data Center mechanical operations.
  • Understanding of Data Center mechanical systems.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced site personnel.
  • Monitor, identify, and escalate only the most complex problems according to documented TierPoint procedures.
  • Monitors ticket flows and receives escalations when Management is not available.
  • Coordinates all permitting and inspections required by local authorities in the absence of Management.
  • Determine priority of action based on severity of service disruptions and respond appropriately.
  • Responsible for the logging and tracking of problems in order to report, track and resolve complex issues.
  • Provide exceptional customer support, for moderately complex to complex problem diagnosis and scheduled processing in order to meet service level agreements.
  • Conduct scheduled site surveys (inspection tours) of the Data Center
  • Record and maintain HVAC metrics and other related details on a regular basis.
  • Consistent high level of interaction and communication with peers, co-workers, other groups and outside vendors.
  • Installation of new equipment and removal of systems as required
  • Provides coverage for other shift operations and/or sites as required.
  • Responsible in providing technical assistance to other TierPoint resources outside of Data Center Operations.
  • Performing physical activities that require moving one’s whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, where the activities often also require considerable use of the arms and legs, such as in the physical handling of materials.
  • In coordination with Central EOC team and / or other TierPoint personnel, provide technical assistance to various customers for second level problem/fault isolation.
  • Assist in the physical installation of computer equipment and components, cable tray, conduit and telecommunications cabling.
  • Understand and utilize computer software that monitors and controls the electrical and/or mechanical systems on a daily basis.
  • Associate degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering, Engineering / Mechanical Technology, Construction Management, a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Must possess a current Journeyman or Master Electrician’s license or Universal CFC Refrigeration License in good standing with the local authorities.
  • Good working relationship with the local Electrical and Mechanical Inspector(s).
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE, NEC and NFPA.

Minimum Qualifications – Mechanical/Plumbing
  • Extensive experience with most of the following:
  • HVAC and related components
  • Plumbing/Piping and related components
  • PLC controls and components
  • Working knowledge in the operation of 100% uptime data centers, critical facilities environment or industrial power systems
  • Working knowledge and experience with 1,000+ ton chiller plants and related components desired
  • Working knowledge and experience with CRAC/CRAH units
  • Working knowledge and experience with cooling towers
  • Working knowledge and experience with condensing units
  • Working knowledge and experience with rooftop units
  • Working knowledge and experience with humidification and dehumidification
  • Working knowledge and experience with pumps
  • Working knowledge and experience with controls and monitoring components
  • Working knowledge and experience with chemical treatment and brine systems
  • Must be knowledgeable in commercial construction field
  • Multi-task and maintain composure in stressful and demanding work environment; Exercise flexibility in challenging and/or perplexing situations
  • Excellent oral and written communication and customer service skills
  • Extensive experience with detailed record keeping and data entry accuracy
  • Ability to read and analyze blueprints and construction drawings including single line diagrams
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to provide direction to Operations Technicians in absence of Management
  • Working knowledge of automated building control systems
  • Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of standards, practices and procedures of installing, testing and operating electrical and mechanical equipment. Usually works with limited supervision.
  • Provide for a safe, neat and evolving working environment
  • Ability to effectively differentiate between colors without assistance
  • Ability to effectively utilize and handle hand operated and power tools
  • Ability to effectively utilize and handle small parts without assistance
  • Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license
