Job Description The IT Network Engineer scope of responsibility includes global site local area networks, wide area network (SDWAN), Wireless, firewalls, and telephony (emphasis on MS Teams Voice) including:

  • Monitoring and proactively reporting on global network capacity, availability, and performance.
  • Supporting the global network; responding, communicating, triaging, and resolving network incidents at a speed commensurate with the impact and urgency to Stepan's business.
  • Deploy new network technologies in support of business projects and other initiatives (e.g. acquisitions).
The IT Network Engineer will be primarily based in the Stepan Millsdale plant in Elwood, IL but will be required to work in the Stepan HQ in Northbrook, IL at least 5 days per month (more as required). Despite being based in Stepan Millsdale, this is a global role with accountability for Millsdale and all Stepan global sites (in partnership with a Northbrook based Network Engineer and local site IT resources across the globe). This role has standard business (8:30-5:00) / IT work hours, however; given the global nature of the role, off-hours work will occasionally be required as is typical in the IT industry: 1. Participate in the on-call support rotation2. Respond to business-critical incidents during off hours where required3. Be available for after-hours project supportThis resource reports to the IT Infrastructure Supervisor (based in Northbrook, IL) and is a member of the Global IT Core Infrastructure team. Job Description Network Documentation, Monitoring, and Performance Reporting Create network diagrams and other supporting documentation for all site networks, wide area network, firewall configurations, and telephony systems. Maintain that documentation in the CMDB making modifications as network infrastructure changes are made.Establish robust network monitoring. Report on capacity, availability, and performance at the monthly IT Operations performance review.Proactively monitor network performance, respond to automated alerts, communicate issues across IT, and resolve issues when required.Constantly identify continuous improvement opportunities; create knowledge articles and procedure documents. Network Support & Maintenance Proactively identify, communicate, and resolve network incidents discovered via network monitoring and alerts.Lead 3rd party efforts (e.g. SDWAN, local service providers) to rapidly resolve incidents.Regularly monitor the ITSM Incident and Service Request Tool (Service Now) for network related incidents and requests; resolve at a speed commensurate with the impact and urgency to Stepan Business Operations.Partner with Engineering resources to support the physically separated Process Control Network (manufacturing network).Leveraging the CMDB and following Stepan IT policies, maintain currency on all network devices and refresh legacy devices where appropriate - following Stepan's change management process.When Critical Network Incidents occur, communicate broadly across IT and the Business and lead cross-functional triaging bridges to ensure quick resolution. IT Projects: Perform hardware implementations / configurations as part of global and local IT projects.Provide hands-on, hyper-care support as IT projects launch.Document changes to existing or new network environments; ensure appropriate sustainability process is in place before project end.Lead knowledge transfer efforts from project implementation to core infrastructure team and other support teams to ensure broad understanding of changes and new network deployments. Document support procedures. Qualifications Minimum 5-8 years of experience working hands-on in a fast-paced IT environment. Extensive, hands-on experience supporting, configuring, and implementing switches, routers, firewalls, telephony, and SDWAN. MS Teams Voice and SBC support expertise strongly preferred. Experience with Aruba ClearPass or Network Access Control systems Ability to analyze and evaluate networks, identify issues, and provide solutions to ensure networks are operating efficiently. Ability to design, implement and troubleshoot Wi-Fi and security infrastructure. Ability to communicate technical information to other technical team members but also to coworkers in other departments who may not have knowledge of networking technical terminology. Chemicals, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing experience strongly preferred including experience with Business and Process Control Networks (and security best practices required to protect and physically separate both). Vendor Certifications from HP Aruba, Velocloud, Palo Alto preferred but not required.
