Description Job Description: The Defense Health Operation of Leidos is currently looking for a Senior Research Engineer/Programmer for the Submarine Medicine and Survival Systems Department at the Naval Submarine Medical Research Laboratory (NSMRL) in Groton, CT. NSMRL conducts research and investigates the effects of medical, psychological, and performance issues associated with the health and performance of naval personnel in operational and non-operational settings.Primary ResponsibilitiesThe ideal candidate shall:

  • Be responsible for software programming in support of research in the behavioral, psychophysical, physiological, and acoustic domains.
  • Provide technical expertise towards the design of research projects.
  • Formulate and implement hardware and software plans for data collection, and train personnel on how to run the data collection during experiments.
  • Formulate creative and novel data acquisition, data reduction, and data analysis solutions for experimental results.
  • Design, test, implement, and modify software for data acquisition in Matlab, LabVIEW, TabSINT, and other real-time data acquisition languages.
  • Travel to data collections to support the completion of those data collections.
  • Travel to support projects both CONUS and OCONUS, so a valid passport (or the ability to obtain one) is required.
  • Be responsible for documenting all their work (i.e., in manuscripts, technical reports, technical memorandums, posters, computers, laboratory notebooks, documentation binders, etc.).
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a computer programming or engineering field with 8+ years of experience in a formal research setting or equivalent.
  • Experience with research in psychoacoustics, acoustics, and acoustic bioeffects will be given strong preference.
  • Required to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a computer programming or engineering field with 5+ years of experience in a formal research setting or equivalent.
  • Experience in a research setting
  • Experience in the US federal government system.
