Sr. Director of Broadband Advocacy and Public Relations

Job Description

Ever wanted the chance to create your own job? Forge your own path? This is a new position being created for just the right person who is passionate about the importance of expanded broadband availability to grow Iowa’s communities.

At the Iowa Communications Alliance (ICA), spearheaded by our community-based broadband provider members, we’re changing how Iowans communicate. We serve as an advocate, catalyst, educator, and resource for Iowa's rural communications providers as they deliver indispensable services (broadband, voice, video) to their communities and the entire state of Iowa. We are building broadband to Iowans who need it the most. And we need help getting the word out. Here’s where you come in. If selected, you’ll:

• Partner with ICA members to guide their respective community leaders to navigate the options for bringing greater broadband connectivity to their rural communities.
• Create and present compelling and impactful content accentuating broadband infrastructure as a driver of community and economic growth.
• Enthusiastically participate in networking, community, PR, and industry activities throughout Iowa.
• Drive member business growth by targeting communities where business development opportunities exist for our members.
• Actively build strong relationships with the full spectrum of ICA member stakeholders as an influencer in broadband/telecommunications proliferation throughout Iowa.

Qualifications

Because our members work on the cutting edge of communication technology, we need someone who is a creative problem solver, resourceful in getting things done, and highly collaborative. We’ll also be looking for these things:

• You are an engaging and effective communicator (verbal and written); convinced it’s about listening.
• You have the vision to see opportunities, anticipate needs, and identify solutions.
• Strategy and storytelling come naturally to you. You can clearly and effectively get buy-in from internal and external stakeholders by generating a buzz of support around a cause/project.
• You’re often commended on your organizational and planning skills and ability to prioritize multiple agendas.
• We’re a small association serving members in rural Iowa so of course you are straight-forward, fun to be around with a healthy sense of humor.

To be effective and hit-the-ground-running, you are somewhat centrally located in Iowa and you’ll likely have experience in some combination of public relations, telecom management, government affairs, association management, sales, relationship management, or lobbying.
