As a Principal Data Scientist, you will focus on applying statistical analysis and machine learning techniques to our data in order to drive smarter decisions and deliver better solutions to business units and customers. Our data scientists work on all parts of the data science workflow: from collecting, cleaning and analyzing the data to coding, optimizing, and deploying the super-smart models they build. You will also have the opportunity to present findings to executive leaders and work directly with teams in other business units in order to refine your product and show off the ROI you have created! You will have the chance to work on a huge variety of projects coming from diverse business units across the company, such as marketing, supply chain and pharmacy. Our projects range from small in scope, such as forecasting a single item's sales to developing foundational data models that help decide where to build its next building. On the data science team, you will find an environment that empowers you to impact all areas. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Consultative mindset to assist internal business partners by being able to deliver a ML project from beginning to end, including understanding the business need, aggregating data, exploring data, building & validating predictive models, and deploying completed models with concept-drift monitoring and retraining to deliver business impact to the organization
  • Ability to apply rudimentary models to understand baseline of business problem, and figure best path forward to become incrementally better, while understanding cause and effect relationships
  • Own a set of data science solutions (i.e., predictive models) in your area(s) of expertise
  • Help evolve the Data Science function to be more sophisticated and structured for improving speed to market of our data products
  • Partner with Analytics team members and other functions to share insights and best practices, ensuring consistency of data-driven decision-making throughout the org
  • Provide mentorship to less experienced data scientists
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • MBA, MS, PhD in Statistics, Applied Math, Economics, Computer Science or related fields
  • 8+ years of industry experience in predictive modeling, data science, and analysis, or equivalent experience
  • Strong Expertise in solving complex and highly impactful quantitative problems with at least one scripting language (Python or R - we use both) and SQL
  • Strong strategic thought leadership to identify business needs, drive towards tactical solutions for those needs,
  • Ability to drive multiple project simultaneously and influence business partners to prioritize key initiatives
  • Innovative thinker and creative problem-solver who is able and willing to challenge the status quo
  • Strong statistical knowledge and intuition - ideally used in A/B testing, observational studies or other forms of causal inference
  • High level of comfort with analytical approaches and quantitative methods to deal with very large datasets.
  • Ability to write ad-hoc data pipelines and ETLs for self-use if need be
  • Extensive exposure to all aspects of Retail/eCommerce from the technical, strategic, and operational perspective is preferred
PROGRAM LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
  • Proficient in Python or R
  • Proficient with SQL, Google BigQuery
  • GitHub, a must
  • Docker, a must
  • Google Cloud Tools, preferred
  • Apache Airflow, preferred
  • Experience with H2O.ai, a plus
  • PowerBI/Tableau, a plus
