This is specialized work performing building HVAC and building automation maintenance.

Typical work schedule: Monday – Thursday 6 am – 4:30 pm, additional day, evening, weekend and/or holiday hours may be required.

Salary: $51,027.00 - 76,540.00

The hiring range is generally around the midpoint of the pay range for well-experienced candidates. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining salary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive)

Diagnosis of HVAC equipment failures.

Performs repairs on HVAC equipment to include boilers, air handlers, DX systems, chillers and numerous other types of HVAC and refrigeration systems.

Installs HVAC and building automation systems and equipment.

Installs ductwork, low voltage controls, gas piping, and ventilation systems.

Remodels existing systems.

Responsible for rough in and final trim of new systems.

Performs all HVAC and automation preventative maintenance.

Responds to and investigates complaints of malfunctioning building comfort control equipment.

Monitor building efficiencies to include indoor air quality and energy use.

OTHER DUTIES:

Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Acts as lead and gives direction to the Facilities Maintenance HVAC Technicians.

CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR:

This is skilled work performing HVAC and building automation maintenance. Consequence of error may result in unsatisfactory work requiring expenditure of resources to rectify the potential for significant building damage and downtime for County departments/divisions

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:

Judgment is based on past knowledge and experience to reach decisions within given guidelines.

CONTACTS:

This position has daily contact with co-workers and other County employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Generally a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by three to four years H.V.A.C. experience.

EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge:

Extensive knowledge in the diagnosis and repair of the following systems: Gas Fired Boilers, Air Handlers, Unit Heaters etc. DX systems, Chillers, Specialty Cooling Units, Exhaust/Ventilation Systems, Automation and Control Systems. This example is not meant to be all inclusive.

Skills: (Language and math)

Ability to read and understand a variety of correspondences such as forms, reports, wiring schematics and blueprints. Ability to effectively communicate. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to perform and utilize mathematical calculations involving variables, formulas, square roots, and polynomials. Ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.

Abilities: (Reasoning)

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to carry out instructions.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of approved methods and practices involved in the installation, construction, repair, and maintenance of a variety of H.V.A.C. equipment. Knowledge of materials available and used for H.V.A.C. installation projects. Experience with Honeywell building automation systems. Working knowledge of state and local ordinances and codes and construction practices. Maybe required to work irregular hours such as weekends, evenings and holidays.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Material and Equipment:

Ability to operate a variety of machinery and equipment such as computers, motor vehicles, power tools and numerous specialty HVAC test equipment.

Physical Demands:

Work requires the ability to frequently lift and carry 50lbs. Work requires the ability to push and pull 100lbs. frequently. Also requires frequent bending, squatting, standing, climbing, kneeling and walking. May be required to occasionally work in small, hard to reach spaces. May be required to pass a physical capabilities exam.

General Work Environment: Work is performed both inside a facility and outdoors in all weather conditions. Some hazardous situations may exist based on work to be performed.

BACKGROUND CHECK:

This position will be required to submit to fingerprinting to be processed through a national database to determine criminal activities.

DRUG SCREENING:

Must complete and pass pre-employment drug screening.

AVAILABILITY/ACCESSIBILITY:

This position requires the incumbent to remain available via mobile cellular device/email access during and after normally scheduled business hours.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess a Federal Universal Refrigeration License issued by the State of Colorado. A valid State of Colorado driver’s license is required. Formal training with certifications of completion in building automation operation and programming.
