Position Title: Director of Nursing

Reports To: Director of Programs, COO

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Director of Nursing will lead the Cape Abilities Nursing Team in the provision of the highest quality, person-centered care in accordance with all state and federal regulations. This position will be responsible for building a cohesive and collaborative clinical team that works together to provide outstanding clinical services across all areas of the Agency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Oversee the maintenance of each individual’s medical record, which ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations. This will include, but are not limited to, Department of Public Health (DPH), Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Mass Health (MH), Mass Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) and Cape Abilities’ policies.

2. Develop both short and long-term goals for the Nursing Department that align with the Agency’s Core Values and Strategic Initiatives.

3. Hire and train new nursing staff members.

4. Evaluate staff performance and prepare accurate reports detailing your findings.

5. Work collaboratively with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) to develop the Department budget, manage, and maintain expenses throughout the fiscal year.

6. Work collaboratively with the program directors and managers all Program staff and management to support constant communication of medication changes or changes of care with medical and/or psychiatric providers, Day Hab, Residential, Adult Foster Care (AFC) and Shared Living (SL) nurses along with DDS and Cape Abilities’ team staff.

7. Be a liaison to medical consultants, healthcare specialists, DPH, DDS and other outside entities, as may be required.

8. Educate Direct Support Professionals, Assistant Program Mangers, Program Managers and Program Directors all Program staff and management on Medication Administration Procedures by reviewing MAP systems and Cape Abilities’ policies and procedures to help ensure continued safe medication administration for all individuals.

9. Educate Direct Support Professionals, Assistant Program Mangers, Program Managers and Program Directors all Program staff and management concerning specific healthcare needs and/or changes of healthcare needs for all individuals.

10. Assist and support all nursing staff to ensure safe and effective practices are being followed in accordance with state regulations, which will include but are not limited to, policies and procedures of Cape Abilities, DPH and DDS.

11. Ensure that all programs meet all clinical licensure requirements at all times and provide in-person support during all site surveys.

12. Develop and maintain all clinical on-call responsibilities for Cape Abilities outside of business hours; including weekends and holidays.

13. Conduct consistently-scheduled Department Meetings and encourage strong communication between team members.

14. Contribute to and provide guidance on the overall coordinated care plan of each individual; including but not limited to: establishing their health profiles, ensuring that persons supported have the opportunity to choose healthy lifestyles to include proper diet and nutrition, exercise and other preventative health measures as appropriate to each individual supported.

15. Oversee the agencies COVID response, including updating policies and protocols.

16. Oversee the agencies occupational health issues including infection control and the employer response to communicable disease.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

The Director of Nursing must be licensed in the state of Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse. A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the health care field is required. Experience with persons who have intellectual disabilities, as well as a minimum of 2 years teaching / training experience preferred. CPR certification and MAP certification required. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, outstanding written and verbal communication skills and the ability to think creatively when problem solving is a must

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

 Provides direct supervision to all Nursing staff in the Agency.
