Job Description

The Controller is responsible for all accounting and control functions relating to the Rental / Retail division of the Aspen Skiing Company.

The budgeted range for this position starts at $80,321. Actual pay will be dependent on budget and experience, all our salaried roles are eligible for bonus.

Essential Job Functions Maintaining accounting records, including general ledger for R/R division Recommending and creating policies and procedures Enforcing policies and procedures Ensuring proper payment of vendors by coordinating with buyers and managers Establish processes to monitor and protect inventory and other company assets Loss prevention and control oversite, policy and process Coordinate with Internal Audit (HCC/CCI) Inventory accounting including (but not limited to):o Physical inventory process and reviewo Handling damaged goodso Good returned to vendorso Transfers between stores and departments Reconciling accounts Communicate/meet regularly with Rental/Retail managers on accounting matters Coordinate with Inventory Analyst Supervise Rental/Retail Accounting department staff Provide guidance on property leases including terms review, renewals, risks and opportunities, as well as working with legal on drafting & redlining Act as the Rental/Retail business subject matter expert for accounting, finance, and inventory control processes on process and system enhancements Assist the Rental/Retail management team on budget data collection, entry, and validation

Qualifications

B.S Degree in accounting or finance required. C.P.A. certification highly desirable. Must have extensive knowledge of retail accounting. 7 or more years of accounting experience. Experience with various accounting, point-of-sale, timekeeping, spreadsheet software, and other financial systems. (CounterPoint or RTP experience a plus) Superior Excel skills. Experience in ski, retail, hospitality or related industry a plus.

Supervision Given and Received Supervision given:  Exercises general supervision over the Retail Staff Accountant. Assigns a variety of routine tasks, sets general expectations of results expected within company’s policies and procedures. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Supervision received: Works under general supervision of the VP of Accounting. Receives continuing or individual assignments according to supervisor’s directions and may perform routine tasks. Expectations of the quality, quantity and deadlines are clearly set. Instructions, advice and assistance available as needed. Work is reviewed on demand or during scheduled check-ins. 

Work Environment and Physical Demands:Ability to stand, type and sit at desk/computer for most of the work shift executing repetitive movements adverse or hazardous conditions Not required, but preferred to be able to occasionally lift, push or pull 25 lbs. individually or with assistance
