Job Description

The City of Merritt has an exciting opportunity for an Economic Development Manager. In this role, you will be the City's lead resource on economic development matters. With your business acumenand passion for supporting business in the community, you will lead the implementation ofeconomic development plans and strategies tofacilitate a healthy, dynamic and sustainable community economy. As the Economic Development Manager, you will build relationships with the local business community, industry partners, community organizations, government organizations, municipal staff and others. You will also manage grant projects with the Planning and Development team andrepresent the City of Merritt regionally, provincially and nationally on all Economic Development matters.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in an economic developmentrole, preferably within alocal government supplemented by post-secondary education in Business or a related field.
  • A solid understanding of business, finance, economics, local government and municipal policies and practices, real estate principles, marketing, public affairs, and a diverse municipality.
  • Experience planning and implementing economic development strategies.
  • Experience working with industry and community-based businesses.
  • Experience building and managing effective business relationships.
  • Experience managing projects, budgets and grants are preferred.
  • Superior interpersonal communication skills.
  • A service orientation.
  • Ability to build relationships and leverage networks to achieve goals.
  • A valid Driver's License and satisfactory, safe driving history.
