- Work with PO to ensure the team understands the project’s goals and scope by regularly reviewing the scope of the development effort
- Identify and remove obstacles to progress through organization of appropriate resources
- Facilitate sprint planning meetings, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, demos, and retrospectives
- Work with PO to manage backlog, reviewing stories and organizing stories by priority and efficiency
- Track daily sprint progress and maintain schedules
- Work closely with other team members including developers, test engineers, and other technical staff to ensure sprints are organized and effective by understanding workflows, schedules, and potential risks
- Track and report on team performance, including capacity, bug-fix rate and throughput
- Coach team to identify team agreement and expected achievements for each sprint – ensure voices are heard and risks are raised to the PO for prioritization
- Identify areas of improvement and “lessons learned” from team retrospectives that lead to improved efficiency and quality – drive towards improvement by identifying actionable items from these “lessons learned” that can be applied in future sprints
- Identify risks to project completion and escalate appropriately
- Anticipate potential obstacles or potential blockers and facilitate additional meetings/sessions to overcome
- Apply Agile methodology to a newer team, driving towards effectiveness in applicable ceremonies
- Mentor team, peers and business sponsors on methods that are useful for improving development and growth
- Organize cross-team strategy sessions (e.g., PI planning) to help align efforts across multiple products
- Team lead for other scrum masters across other projects, organizing the team and aligning goals and processes across products
- Stand up a new team from scratch, identifying key qualifications and needs for the project team
- Minimum 7 years’ experience operating as a Scrum Master
- Certification (e.g., Certified Scrum Master) required
- Experience with having led a team of Scrum Masters
- Demonstrated ability to proactively prioritize stories within a sprint and effectively manage resources
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills – must be able to speak easily with developers, as well as product owners and business sponsors
- Ability to lead retrospective discussions using both metrics and subjectivity to help continuously improve
- Working knowledge of APIs, database and general programming concepts to allow for easier communication with a development team; familiarity with SaaS products to anticipate deliverables and brainstorm with the team
- Demonstrated ability to assess the growth and abilities of a project team – review/develop reporting that allows the team productivity to grow, and maintain capable and efficient performance
