We investigate, select, develop, and integrate technologies and solutions that meet the needs of the company for short, medium and long term initiatives. This includes the delivery of the technology plan and future architecture for Voice, Video, Data, Optical, Commercial, Cloud, CPE, Network and Access.

JOB SUMMARYResponsible for designing components of Charter's national backbone strategy by developing standards, evaluating, testing, and documenting technologies related, but not limited to, BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, MAP-T, QOS, network monitoring and data analytics solutions. Works with product development and technical operations staff on network design and configuration.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Actively and consistently supports all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Designs, implements, monitors, enhances and troubleshoots systems in assigned areas.
  • Analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary.
  • Tests and reviews system designs.
  • Provides engineering technical support and guidance to regional personnel and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards and documentation are met.
  • Mentors and guides the work of technical staff.
  • Reviews work plans and designs and advises on improvements.
  • Adheres to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
  • Knows, understands and follows company policy.
  • Performs other duties as requested by manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSSkills/Abilities and Knowledge
  • Advanced knowledge in network design, architecture, and protocols.
  • Expert level knowledge of Junos and IOS-XR network operating systems.
  • Experience designing and deploying network lab topologies for platform and feature validation testing.
  • Advanced knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model.
  • Advanced knowledge of BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, MPLS, QOS, network monitoring and data analytics solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of network diagraming software, such as Visio or LucidCharts.
  • Experience documenting complex network architectures, designs, features, and test results.
  • Experience presenting complex topics to partner teams and peers.
  • Experience using Linux server operating systems.
  • Experience developing network automation solutions.
  • Exposure to virtualization technologies.
  • Experience creating and executing test plans and test cases.
  • Advanced knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Singlemode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet, and Transport technologies and protocols.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language to communicate to employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner.
  • Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly.
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSSkills /Abilities and Knowledge
  • Knowledge of company products and services.
  • Knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations
  • Experience working with network programmability strategies (NETCONF, GRPC, YANG).
  • Experience scripting with Python programming language.
  • Experience using software tools such as Ansible, network monitoring systems, Git or other source version control systems.
  • Experience using VMWare VCenter to build and work with virtual machines.

Education
  • Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc), such as:
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • Juniper Networks Certified Internetworking Professional (JNCIP)
