The Charter Technical Engineering Center (

CTEC) facilities in Englewood, CO oversee the design and architecture of Charter's multi-billion dollar network infrastructure. We investigate, select, develop, and integrate technologies and solutions that meet the needs of the company for short, medium and long term initiatives. This includes the delivery of the technology plan and future architecture for Voice, Video, Data, Optical, Commercial, Cloud, CPE, Network and Access.

JOB SUMMARYThe Access Architecture team is looking for a talented Principal Engineer I to join a dynamic team of highly experienced DOCSIS, Fiber and Automation Engineer working lab automation and field escalations. Job responsibilities will require technical leadership in key areas of the HFC DOCSIS and FTTH Fiber network design and architectures. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of the legacy DOCSIS CMTS and Cable Modem platforms. A strong background and understanding of the EPON, OLT's and ONU's operations is required. Working experience and expert knowledge of CableLabs standards and specifications as well as other relevant standard bodies specifications is a must. The individual will be a key contributor to creating detailed root cause analysis, test plan, test plan results working closely with vendors to drive them toward resolution of defects. The candidate must have a strong background and understanding of key network elements from several vendors such as CommScope, Cisco, Casa, Vecima, Ethernode and Harmonic. This position will be responsible for providing guidance and directions for Engineers testing and configuration of multiple vendor products into Charter's networks. Hands on work in a lab or cable system environment are required to validate test plans and configurations before service deployment. The individual will also support vendors with product and service requirements based on Charter business needs and internal customer requests.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Designs, implements, monitors, enhances and troubleshoots systems in assigned areas.
  • Analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary.
  • Tests and reviews system designs.
  • Provides Engineering Technical support and guidance to regional personnel and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards and documentation are met.
  • Mentors and guides the work of technical staff.
  • Reviews work plans and designs and advises on improvements.
  • Adheres to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
  • Knows, understands and follows company policy.
  • Performs other duties as requested by manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Skills/Abilities and Knowledge Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional mannerBasic knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocolsBasic knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topologyBasic knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI ModelBasic knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations.Basic knowledge of network devices and basic network appliancesBasic knowledge of network designing software, such as VisioAbility to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quicklyAbility to use personal computer and software applications

EducationMasters or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience
